The rivalry between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre had reached its peak going into SummerSlam. Over the past few months, both stars have made it personal by repeatedly sabotaging each other. However, the third person equally involved in this rivalry is the inaugural World Heavyweight Champion, Seth Rollins. Now, ahead of the mega event, a new report has shed some light on the plans involving the three stars.
According to Dave Meltzer from Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE is not planning to have a three-way match. They are not intending to add Seth Rollins to the match between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam. Despite that, The Visionary will be involved in some way in their match; the only question is how.
All three stars were involved in the chaos that took place at the Money in the Bank PLE. Damian Priest defended his World Heavyweight Title against Rollins. Both stars were watching the stage, aware that The Scottish Warrior could cash in his contract. Unfortunately for them, that’s exactly what ended up happening. However, his plan to become the new champ was ruined thanks to CM Punk.
Both Rollins and McIntyre expressed their anger toward The Second City Saint for sabotaging their night. In addition to that, Punk and McIntyre were fined, and the latter was even suspended from Raw. Now, after two weeks, he will address the current situation in the upcoming episode of Raw. It will be interesting to see what unfolds on the show.
WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray explains how the rivalry between Seth Rollins and CM Punk should play out
Although fans are more excited about the rivalry between Punk and McIntyre at this point, Rollins has also been equally significant in the storyline. Bully Ray felt that these fierce rivals should compete in a match at WrestleMania to end it in a big way. He also discussed who should portray a face and who should play a heel.
When The Best in the World made his return last year at Survivor Series, Rollins was seen in extreme anger. As their rivalry progressed, fans began to cheer for both stars, eager to enjoy their match at WrestleMania XL. However, WWE had to scrap the plans due to Punk’s injury. Bully felt that they should never try to force either of them to be perceived as a heel by the audience.
I would never try to force one of those guys as the heel. I'm going to speak my truth; the other guy is going to speak his truth. We'll let the people decide whose side they're on.Bully Ray via the Busted Open Radio
In his opinion, WWE should let them do their work and allow fans to decide whom they want to support in the rivalry. However, with McIntyre in the picture, the Rollins-Punk rivalry would not be at the forefront of their minds right now. Only time will tell when they will rekindle their rivalry.
