The wrestling world unfortunately had to witness another round of WWE releases today. While nobody is fond of this process, it is a necessary aspect of the business. Fans had to bid farewell to a few of their favorite superstars ahead of the upcoming Elimination Chamber.
Shortly after the latest episode of SmackDown, PWInsider started to break the news about various WWE talents who had been let go from the company. The first name to be announced was Cedric Alexander. Following this news, he thanked his fans for his time with the company. Furthermore, he teased something for when his 90-day non-compete clause expires in May. The 35-year-old may be AEW-bound, considering that is where the Hurt Business reunited months ago.
Another set of names added to this list were the Authors of Pain and Paul Ellering. The trio was recently teamed up alongside Karrion Kross and Scarlett as part of the Final Testament. They had a dominant run in NXT but did not see much success on the main roster. It appears that WWE is now interested in using the White Rabbit as a singles superstar away from this faction.

Lastly, Blair Davenport was also released from the Stamford-based promotion. She was called up to the main roster as part of the 2024 WWE Draft. However, she was barely even seen on TV. Some earlier reports had stated that the company was interested in utilizing her more after SmackDown was bumped up to three hours. However, it seems that these plans have been scrapped.
Sonya Deville’s contract is not renewed amidst latest round of WWE releases
Although she was technically not a part of this round of WWE releases, Sonya Deville will also not be seen with the promotion going forward. As PWInsider announced, this is a case of her contract not being renewed, very similar to what happened with Baron Corbin last year.
Sonya Deville had been with the company since Tough Enough 2015. She got called up to the main roster in 2017 but failed to find success as a main-eventer. Although she had won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship alongside Chelsea Green in 2023, she was forced to give up her title due to an ACL injury.
After returning from her injury, Deville formed the Pure Fusion Collective alongside Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark. They were being pushed as a highly dominant force. However, they failed to get over with the fans and eventually found themselves floating around on the mid-card. Considering that her stablemates are still with the company, it would be interesting to see the direction that WWE has planned for them.
