REPORT : WWE Raw is reverting back to the ‘edgier’ TV-14 rating beginning next week

WWE Raw is once again going NON-PG

A new era is set to begin next week for WWE Raw as they have reportedly decided to make the much demanded bold move of squandering back to their TV- 14 ratings starting off next Monday Night on the red brand moving forward on the USA Network. The news have shattered the course of wrestling world ever since getting broken by Andrew Zarian of Matmen Podcast.

According to him, all Raw shows moving forward will be rated as TV-14 officially ending the “PG Era” in WWE after nearly 14 years of existence. You can check out the report tweeted out by Zarian below. This move can bring a huge change to the current state of the WWE which had been detoriating over the past few years at a quite rapid pace, the tumbling television numbers of the past few years are a pure indicative of the decline.

WWE first moved to TV-14 back in 1997 after which one of the company’s most prolific eras namely the Attitude Era began whose journey kickstarted after the infamous Montreal Screwjob at Survivor Series that year. After that WWE saw potentially the greatest superstars to have ever been created in the history of professional wrestling till date by the likes of Stone Cold Steve Austin and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

WWE once again crawled back to being a PG rated show dated July 18 in 2008 after which a significant decline in the intensity and brutality of the product became fairly visible to everyone watching around. The fans later began criticizing WWE for going PG due to their “watered-down” and “family-friendly” product. There was a huge lack in the profanity among the promos being delivered during this period which pissed off few hardcores who closely watched the product during the Attitude Era and The Ruthless Aggression Era in WWE.

The company became highly soft for bringing the much-needed edginess in the shows and that heavily declined the interest of fans tuning into them. One case saw The Undertaker and Triple H even got fined for putting vicious steel chair shots openly on each other’s heads back in 2011 after the company wanted to minimise and demolish such act after the controversial death of Chris Benoit. Several legends and veterans started to call out WWE for becoming too much boring and soft. Former WWF writer Vince Russo once compared those segments as Sesame Street.

Will WWE switching gears back to their old ways change anything?

WWE
Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar are two current biggest stars in WWE

While the first Raw back with such rating have not even happened yet, the fans on internet have already started to dish out fantasies on their own regarding what could happen in the foreseeable future on WWE television. Although some experts believe that the change is very significant step moving forward but there ain’t gonna be some drastic tweaks in the shows immediately.

The most obvious things to expect from this change could be the use of more abusive language in the promos and having some bloodbath in highly octane matches. WWE has chosen to stay blood-free for a long time barring some instances which can be counted as exceptions. Will this move bring any revolutionary changes in the programming of this company? For that we will have to tune in for weeks to come.
