WWE Summerslam is dubbed to be “The Biggest Party of the Summer”. It is one of the “Big Four” PPV’s of WWE’s calendar, and this year WWE has decided to take it to the Wrestlemania level. One of the biggest name to be a part of the WWE Summerslam card this year is 16-time WWE World Champion, John Cena.
Cena holds a special record at Summerslam, he has a streak of 14 appearances at the PPV. 2018 was the first time since 2003, that Cena was not a part of the card. Even his 14 appearances provide us a complete look of his rise, zenith and fall.
Despite being a part of the WWE roster in 2003, Cena was not given the opportunity to be a part of Summerslam that year. His first appearance at the PPV came in 2004, which featured the first of the Best of Five matches against Booker T. His rise continued, and Cena dominated the PPV till 2009.
Summerslam 2010 gave us the controversial Elimination tag match, where Cena teamed up with several Superstars to face Nexus. He was always going over, but the way he won, is still considered to be a selfish move. But soon, Cena’s fall began, when WWE started focussing on making new stars.
This led to six consecutive losses for Cena, where he loss to the likes of Brock Lesnar, Daniel Bryan, Seth Rollins and CM Punk. But at least, his consecutive run at Summerslam ended with a win against Baron Corbin. Cena currently holds a record of 5-9 at the PPV.
16-time World Champion John Cena will be a part of WWE Summerslam 2021
The biggest surprise of WWE Money in the Bank 2021 was the return of former World Champion John Cena. He returned to challenge Universal Champion Roman Reigns. The two Superstars will battle at WWE Summerslam.
WWE is going all-out with Summerslam this year and Cena vs Reigns is just setting the tone for the event. The biggest villain on WWE TV is going against the biggest face of the company ever. The PPV is still over a month ago, but the rivalry has already gained massive heat.
WWE Summerslam 2021 airs live on 21st August, 2021.
