“Maybe we shouldn’t”: The Undertaker looks back at his botch-filled match against Goldberg
Goldberg and Taker
The Undertaker is considered to be one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time. His career had kicked off in 1987 and interestingly, he has been with the company since 1990! He had kicked off his career as a mid-carder under the gimmick of “Mean” Mark Callous. But during his time on WWE (known as WWF back then), he was rebranded as “The Undertaker”.
The gimmick immediately became a fan favorite with the supernatural, undead persona. For almost entirety of his career he has been with WWE. But even after announcing retirement from the business, he is still signed with the company as he signed a 15-year contract in 2019. This is justified, considering his long list of accomplishments.
The Undertaker held the iconic Wrestlemania streak, which unfortunately came to an end after 21 straight wins. He announced his retirement in 2020 and received a farewell from the company at Survivor Series. While there are innumerable iconic moments throughout the Deadman’s career, there is one match which will always stain his decades long run.
The match took place at the 2019 Super Showdown in Saudi Arabia. For the first-time ever The Undertaker was colliding against Goldberg. While on paper it seemed like a massive collision, in reality the battle turned out to be a massive dud. The entire match was filled with botches and the end involved Goldberg dropping Taker right on his head while delivering a Jackhammer.
The Deadman recently appeared on the True Geordie Podcast, where he opened up about the botched-filled bout. “I’m thinking, We gotta pay this off. Maybe if I was working more often I would have recognized the fact that, maybe we shouldn’t do that. That was one of those instances where two inches, I don’t get up,” mentioned Taker.
The Undertaker will be inducted into the Hall of Famer
WWE Hall of Fame induction has been taking place during the Wrestlemania week. The first inductee of the Class of 2022 was announced to be none other than The Undertaker. Considering all his accomplishments and accolades, it was only a matter of time before he was inducted into the prestigious Hall of Fame.
WWE CEO and Chairman Vince McMahon recently appeared on The Pat McAfee Show. He took the opportunity to announce that Taker will be inducted into the Hall of Fame by none other than the boss himself. McMahon and Taker share a close relationship and hence the decision.
