NXT TakeOver 36 made the WWE universe witness the end of an historic title reign. The Ring General, Walter held the NXT UK Championship for 870 days but Ilja Dragunov finally ended his reign in a stunning one-on-one match. the action packed match made everyone come up to their feet and witness one of the best matches in WWE history.
The match started with Ilja applying a powerful side headlock on Walter when the latter fought back and pushed him out of the ring. The champion then delivered a powerbomb to the challenger on the ring apron followed by a German suplex for a near fall. Walter then applied some submission moves of his own but Ilya was able to get out of it.
The two men then started exchanging blows with each other when Ilja went to the top rope. Walter took him down with a T-Bone suplex slam for two close counts. The champion then landed a thunderous chop on the challenger which made the referee concerned over the challenger’s health.
Walter then went to the top rope for a flying move but Ilja fought back and delivered a superplex to the champ which made everyone chant for them. Walter then delivered a knee to the face of Ilja and then delivered the splash but Ilja still kicked out. Ilja Dragunov then applied the sleeper hold forcing Walter to submit. Ilja Dragunov ended Walter’s 870 day reign and became the new NXT UK Champion.
