Drew McIntyre took on the World Heavyweight Champion, Damian Priest, at Clash at the Castle in Scotland. The Scottish Psychopath looked to hold the championship for longer than five minutes after winning it in front of fans. While he had the entrance of a hero in front of his home crowd, it was not meant to be because of the shocking interference from CM Punk.
During the match, the referee dodged out of the way to avoid being hit by the competitors. While he was standing on the apron, Priest accidentally ran into him. The match official then hit the barrier and was knocked out cold.
Meanwhile, in the ring, the challenger landed a Claymore on Damian Priest and went for the pinfall. Although the crowd counted to ten, there was no referee to make the pinfall official. A match official finally entered the ring and started counting but stopped after two.
The cameras revealed that the man dressed in the referee attire was none other than CM Punk. The Straight Edge superstar continued his mind games on his arch-rival and got into his head. He then hit McIntyre with a low blow and exited the ring. This allowed Priest to land a South of Heaven Chokeslam and retain his title.
Wrestling Fans are left shocked after watching CM Punk cost Drew McIntyre the World Heavyweight Championship
The wrestling world went crazy after witnessing CM Punk go to such lengths to cost his arch-rival the World Heavyweight Championship. Although fans were disheartened to see the Scottish Warrior not get his moment in front of his home crowd, his feud with the former AEW star has been elevated to another level.
Fans were eager to find out what happens next, starting next week on Raw. They joked about how Drew McIntyre would snap to a level he never had before and would be willing to go to the lengths of killing the Chicago native.
Netizens also appreciated the long-term booking of Triple H. Punk and McIntyre have been involved in a heated feud on Raw that dates back over six months. The Voice of the Voiceless also cost his rival the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XL. Additionally, the camera work during the reveal was phenomenal for the crowd watching from home.
Although the Best in the World was absent from WWE programming for a few weeks, he made a perfect return at Scotland to cost his arch-rival the championship.
