The King of the Ring tournament continued this week on SmackDown. The quarter-finals of the tournament featured Randy Orton, who beat AJ Styles last week to advance in the tournament. His opponent was Carmelo Hayes, taking out Baron Corbin to join his opponent in the quarter-finals.
A clip from this quarter-final match on SmackDown has dazzled the wrestling world. At one point in the match, both competitors were getting to their feet after being laid out. Hayes ran towards his opponent, who responded with a lariat. The rising star ducked under and ran towards the ropes. He jumped off the ropes to presumably go for his iconic springboard DDT. However, things did not go as planned.
As the former NXT Champion turned around to hit his DDT, Orton caught him with an RKO while the 29-year-old was still airborne. The finisher knocked Carmelo Hayes out cold, and The Apex Predator sealed his victory with a pinfall.
Randy Orton will now face Tama Tonga in the semi-finals of the King of the Ring tournament. The winner will proceed to the finals at the King & Queen of the Ring PLE. They will battle the winner of Gunther vs. Jey Uso for the coveted crown in Saudi Arabia.
WWE Universe is highly impressed by Randy Orton and Carmelo Hayes after an incredible RKO in the King of the Ring tournament
The wrestling world was highly impressed with this spot. They showered praise upon both competitors for their beautiful execution of the move. Randy Orton proved once again why he is a legend of the business. Further, the young superstar demonstrated to the world why people regard him as one of the most promising stars of this generation.
Many claimed that this was Orton’s Top 5 RKOs of all time. The move was executed perfectly, and the NXT call-up sold it really well. The two had great chemistry in the ring as well, leaving fans wanting more matches between this talented duo.
Many were thankful that this week’s springboard spot was executed well and did not end up like his spot against Cody Rhodes, where both competitors went for a springboard move simultaneously and missed. The spot even caused an injury scare for the WWE Undisputed Champion before his defense at Backlash.
