Pat McAfee is a former football punter and kickoff specialist. He was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL Draft. Since announcing his retirement in 2017, he became a football analyst. In addition to this he is also a businessman, sports analyst and a podcaster.

But the WWE Universe knows him as the Smackdown commentator. Initially, he had started out as a guest commentator on the NXT TakeOver events back in 2018. He even went on to make his in-ring debut at NXT TakeOver XXX, where he lost to former WWE Superstar Adam Cole. In 2021, McAfee was moved to Smackdown as a color commentator.

Getting signed with WWE, opened new avenues for Pat McAfee. Recently, he got the chance to take arguably the biggest interview of his career. WWE CEO and Chairman Vince McMahon appeared on his “The Pat McAfee Show” for a freewheeling chat. Interestingly, during the show, McMahon offered McAfee an opportunity to fight at Wrestlemania 38.

During the course of the interview, McMahon did not reveal the opponent for Pat McAfee. But on the following episode of Smackdown, Vince McMahon’s protégé, Austin Theory, appeared an revealed that he is the opponent. The duo had a heated face-to-face meetup, with Theory slapping away McAfee’s headset.

But things took a really heated turn on the latest episode of Smackdown. Theory appeared during the Intercontinental Championship match between Ricochet and Sami Zayn. While McAfee tried his best to control himself, but he ended up jumping over the commentary table and attacking Theory. Post this altercation, he was escorted out of the building. Pat McAfee will face Austin Theory at Wrestlemania 38

As a part of the Smackdown commentary team, Pat McAfee was already set to appear throughout the Wrestlemania weekend. But he went on to accept Vince McMahon’s offer of performing at the Showcase of Immortals. There have been rumors that Vince McMahon might get involved in the match in some capacity.

Pat McAfee and Austin Theory are all set to collide on Wrestlemania Sunday. The Day 2 card currently involves:

  • Universal Champion Roman Reigns vs WWE Champion Brock Lesnar (Winner Takes All Title Unification match)
  • Carmella & Queen Zelina vs Sasha Banks & Naomi vs Rhea Ripley & Liv Morgan (Women’s Tag Team Championship match)
  • Sami Zayn vs Johnny Knoxville
  • Pat McAfee vs Austin Theory
