“Want to dive in the son of a b***h”: John Cena reveals why he signed The Suicide Squad

John Cena was seen in a series of blockbusters in 2021. He kicked off the year with an appearance in F9, a part of the Fast & Furious series. The fans got a chance to see him in a new avatar, as he portrayed a negative character, who eventually moved to the good side. Cena played the role of Jakob Toretto, the brother of the lead character, Dominik Toretto.
The same year, Cena made his much-awaited return to WWE at Money in the Bank. He feuded against the Universal Champion Roman Reigns for a month – leading to a clash of the titans at Summerslam. Unfortunately, he ended up on the losing side but was successful in delivering one of the best feuds of the year.
But the bigger surprise came later that year, when the 16-time WWE World Champion got the chance to appear in a superhero movie. John Cena was signed on to play the role of Peacemaker in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. Interestingly, this was a reboot of the 2016-film which had polarized the fans.
John Cena’s take on the Peacemaker was immensely loved by the fans and he went on to receive his own television series. Considering the reviews of the previous Suicide Squad movie, signing on to this movie was a huge gamble – which thankfully paid off. In an interview with Screen Rant, Cena revealed the reason behind signing the film.
“Made me want to dive in the son of a b***h extra hard. There is no more satisfying situation than to change someone’s mind. And then you look at the people involved in trying to orchestrate that choice. Like I said, I’ve been on James every day. And I think he kind of likes having that chip on his shoulder. He probably won’t admit it, but I think he kind of likes it and he wants to be able to change perception to people who maybe weren’t so happy with the first they saw. It makes it fun,” mentioned the Leader of Cenation.
John Cena kept taking the Peacemaker costume home
Throughout the promotions of The Suicide Squad as well as the Peacemaker show, John Cena appeared only and only in his superhero costume. He had revealed that he was doing so, to get the fans familiarized with the costume. During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, director James Gunn revealed that he Cena often took the costume home with him.
“By the way, John stole this outfit. I just want to tell everybody that we have asked him. Because after we shot The Suicide Squad, we shot the Peacemaker TV series, and I kept telling him to quit taking the outfit. I know it doesn’t look like it’s that expensive, but these costumes are tens of thousands of dollars to put together,” mentioned James Gunn.
