Why was Drew McIntyre fired from WWE?

McIntyre

Drew McIntyre is one of the biggest babyfaces on the WWE roster today. While he is currently occupied in a never-ending feud with Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss, 2020 was a massive year for him. He had kicked off that year with a win in the Men’s Royal Rumble match. McIntyre capitalized on the win and went on to win the WWE Championship at Wrestlemania 36.

The Scottish Warrior was the Champion for almost the entire year, but things soon started to go downhill for him. The entirety of his glory came during the Thunderdome Era and once the live crowds returned he has failed to capture the top title again. In fact, the WWE Universe weren’t even happy with the fact that he wasn’t given a title match at Wrestlemania 38.

While today one may find it really weird to not see Drew McIntyre in a title scene, there was a time when WWE had nothing to do with him. The 2-time WWE Champion’s fans might be aware that this is his second stint with the company. Back in 2014, the Scottish Warrior was fired from the company!

In 2017, McIntyre returned to the company. Initially he was performing on the NXT brand, before returning to the main roster in 2018. Since then he was seen in a more prominent role and his physique too improved drastically. In a recent interview with Mark Andrews on My Love Letter To Wrestling, Drew McIntyre revealed why he was fired from the company.

“I wasn’t giving it my all. I wasn’t being honest with myself and looking at my weak areas where I could improve. And obviously, some big personal things happened that pushed me over the edge when it came to the partying and the drinking and the likes. But still, I wasn’t doing anything to try and get better mentally,” mentioned the 2-time WWE Champion.

The Scottish Warrior will be seen in action at Wrestlemania 38 in a match against Happy Corbin. While both the Superstars have immense calibre to deliver one of the best matches of the night, fans believe that Drew McIntyre should’ve been in a title match. They stormed the Twitter with their suggestions too.

All the lobbying caught the 2-time WWE Champion’s attention. He put out a video with the caption – “I’ve seen your responses and I appreciate the support. I’m in this industry to win titles and be in marquee fights, my time will come again. Corbin is a hell of a competitor, however he’s proved to be about as smart as he is funny picking a fight with me.”
