“BIGGEST SPORTING EVENT”: Wrestlemania 38 shatters records set by Super Bowl LVI
Wrestlemania 38 broke Super Bowl LVI records
Wrestlemania 38 is officially in the books. The Showcase of Immortals is considered to be the biggest event in the WWE calendar. Earlier it used it to be a single night event – involving every major Superstar on the roster. But a couple of years ago the event started extending for over seven hours!
That is when the company decided to make it a two-night affair. Since 2020, Wrestlemania became too big for one night and has been a two-night event ever since. A couple of days ago, Wrestlemania 38 took place over the course of two nights in Dallas, Texas at the AT&T Stadium. With over 70,000 fans in attendance on both the nights, the event recorded a total attendance of 156,352.
According to a recent report on Conviva, Wrestlemania 38 was the biggest sporting event, surpassing the social media records set by Super Bowl LVI. You can checkout the comparison here:
- Impressions: WWE: 2.2 Billion Impressions vs. Super Bowl: 1.8 Billion Impressions
- Video Views: WWE: 1.1 Billion Video Views vs. Super Bowl: 618 Million Video Views
- Video Watch Time: WWE: 13.1 Million Hours vs. Super Bowl: 3.56 Million Hours
- Engagements: WWE: 87 Million Engagements vs. Super Bowl: 78 Million Engagements
Super Bowl is often considered to be the biggest sporting event in the world. It is the annual playoff championship game of the NFL. The Super Bowl LVI was played back in February and saw the Los Angeles Rams defeat Cincinnati Bengals 23-20. Interestingly, the match was played at the SoFi Stadium, where Wrestlemania 39 is scheduled to take place.
Wrestlemania 38 had a stacked card
While it is considered to be the biggest event on the WWE calendar, in the last couple of years, the grandeur of Wrestlemania had been dialled down due to the Covid-19 pandemic. But with eased restrictions this year, WWE decided to go all out for Wrestlemania 38. They tapped into every possible resource to make this event a massive success.
First of all, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin made his return to wrestling and featured on both the nights. Vince McMahon too returned to in-ring action. Celebrities like Logan Paul and Johnny Knoxville were in action too. While Triple H showed up for the first time since announcing retirement, The Undertaker’s gong rung once again, but this time as a Hall of Famer. Cody Rhodes returned. But this isn’t all. Apart from 15 massive matches, the event closed with the Greatest Wrestlemania Match of All Time – featuring Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar.
