The next era of Indian Cricket Team is about to start. India won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and that marked the end of road for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in T20Is. Meanwhile, Head Coach, Rahul Dravid, also stepped away from the role after his contract expired.

The BCCI has appointed Gautam Gambhir as the new Head Coach of Team India. Gambhir served as the mentor of KKR in IPL 2024 and led the team to the title. Meanwhile, he has proposed the name of Abhishek Nayar and Ryan Ten Doeschate as the assistant coach. He has also proposed the name of Morne Morkel as the bowling coach.

Now, all these personnel are going to travel with him for the first assignment in Sri Lanka. Nayar and Doeschate were present with him in the KKR set up. On the other hand, Morne Morkel played under Gambhir in KKR and was also the bowling coach of Lucknow Super giants when Gambhir was their mentor.

Gambhir is definitely a hard task master but one of the most clever strategist on the cricket field. He led KKR to two IPL titles as a captain and always stays ahead of the game. Suryakumar Yadav has been chosen as the T20I captain, who has played under Gambhir in KKR. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma will continue to captain India in ODIs and Test cricket.

Gambhir has always been a fan of Sharma as a player and as a captain. He likes the ‘selfless’ attitude that Sharma displays on the cricket field and takes the attack to the bowlers without looking for his personal milestones.
