Scottie Scheffler once again showed the golfing world why he was the top-ranked player on the planet. On Sunday, the World No.1 secured his 4th major title as he won the Open Championship. Following his win, Xander Schauffele would heap huge praise on him and claimed that he was a “tough man to beat.”
Schauffele entered this event as the defending champion, having won the title last year. After a score of 71 in the first round, the World No.3 carded scores of 69, 66, and 68 to finish T7 with a score of 10-under par for the tournament.
As for Scheffler, the 29-year-old ran away with the title. Following an opening round score of 68, he shot 64 on Friday and 67 on Saturday to become the 54-hole leader. In the previous nine instances where he was the outright 54-hole leader, Scheffler had gone on to win in all of them.
He continued this run and extended the streak to 10 with a score of 68 in the final round. The American international finished 17-under par, 4 shots ahead of runner-up Harris English to claim his 2nd major title of the 2025 season.
He is inevitable.

Following his win, Schauffele would praise him for his effort. The golfer even joked that it “sucks” for them, as many did not imagine seeing someone go on a dominant run like Tiger Woods did back in the day.
He’s incredible. He really is. I don’t think we thought the golfing world would see someone as dominant as Tiger come through so soon, and here’s Scottie sort of taking that throne of dominance. You can’t even say he’s on a run. He’s just been killing it for over two years now. He’s a tough man to beat, and when you see his name up on the leaderboard, it sucks for us.

With his win at the Open Championship at Royal Portrush, Scheffler also repeated something that Schauffele did last year. Before the PGA Championship last year, Schauffele had no major wins.
He would then go on to win the PGA Championship at the Valhalla course. Two months later, the American golfer claimed the Open Championship at the Royal Troon Golf Club. In the last two years, the person who won the PGA Championship has gone on to win the Open later on.
Scottie Scheffler completes three legs of career grand slam with Open Championship win
Scottie Scheffler clinched another win on Sunday as he emerged triumphant at the 2025 Open Championship. With this win, he completed three legs of the career grand slam.

The career grand slam in golf is an achievement that only a select few have managed to accomplish. A player is said to complete the career grand slam in golf when they win all the 4 major championships.
Earlier this year, Rory McIlroy became just the 6th golfer to complete this as he won the Masters Tournament. The Northern Irish golfer had won the U.S. Open, the PGA Championship, and the Open Championship by 2014.
At the 2025 Masters Tournament, McIlroy finally conquered the Augusta National course and claimed his first win in this historic event. He would become the first player since Tiger Woods to complete the career grand slam.

Before the start of the year, Scheffler had only won the Masters. After winning the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, Scheffler went on to win the PGA Championship at the Quail Hollow course. Despite a score of 71 in the final round, the golfer was able to win the title with a 5-stroke margin.
This weekend, he was dominant from start to finish once again. With a score of 267 from the 4 rounds, Scheffler was named the Champion Golfer of the Year.
He has now thus completed three legs of the career grand slam and needs to win the U.S. Open to become the 7th player in golf history to win all 4 majors. He is also now the third active golfer after Jordan Spieth and Phil Mickelson, who have completed three legs of his.

While Spieth needs to win the PGA Championship, Mickelson needs to win the U.S. Open as well. Both of these stars have not performed well in the majors in recent times, which has cast doubts on them ever completing the career grand slam.
