Just a few days before The American Express 2025, the World No.2 Xander Schauffele withdrew his name from the third event of the year. This comes after he successfully made his TGL debut with the New York Golf Club last week.
The two-time major champion has not revealed the reason behind his withdrawal. As per reports, the World No.2 has withdrawn from the event due to medical reasons.
Schauffele is now another big name who will not be participating in The American Express. World No.1 Scottie Scheffler last week announced that he will not be appearing at the La Quinta course in California.
Scheffler had suffered a freak accident at his home during Christmas. While preparing the dinner, he injured his right hand, and later underwent surgery on it. He was expected to be back at this event. However, he decided not to rush and took another week off.
Schauffele’ absence from injury comes as a surprise to many. The 31-year-old did take part in The Sentry in Hawaii, two weeks ago. He would finish T30 while carding 17-under for the tournament.

Following Schauffele’ withdrawal from the event, the field has lost some of the strong names. The highest ranked player now in the field is Wyndham Clark, who is currently 7th in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR).
The defending champion Nick Dunlap though is in the field. Last year, he created history as he become the first youngest amateur after Phil Mickelson to win The American Express.
Xander Schauffele reflects on getting booed at the TGL debut
Last week, the sport of golf saw a new chapter in its long history as the TGL kicked off. This was the first instance where professional golfers took part in simulation golf tournaments. It though was not a performance to remember for Xander Schauffele as he got booed by the fans after his team’s heavy defeat.
Schauffele along with Rickie Fowler and Matt Fitzpatrick took on the Wyndham Clark, Ludvig Aberg and Shane Lowry of The Bay Golf Club. In this match, the Bay Golf Club took an early 5-0 lead as Aberg and Lowry shined. Their team went on to register an emphatic 9-2 win.
Meanwhile, Schauffele did not have a good showing. He missed a few putts which left the fans booing him. Speaking regarding the matter in the press conference after the game, the golfer laughed off his performance and claimed that he would boo himself too.
