Succeeding at FC Barcelona is not for everyone. Xavi Hernandez has become the latest manager to face the axe at the club, despite winning La Liga title and the Spanish Super Cup in his first full season with the club.
Despite all the confusion and controversy, Barca have finally made the decision to part ways with the manager. As the club legend finally prepares to depart, Xavi couldn’t help but ‘warn’ his successor of the situation at the club.
It's a difficult situation. Barca is already difficult but the situation is even more. He will have to work hard because it is not easyXavi Hernandez said in a press conference
Xavi coached his final game for the club on Sunday night, leading his side to a 2-1 win. As the Spaniard departs from the club, he leaves behind a legacy like none other.
Xavi gave 15 La Masia graduates their debut during his two-and-a-half seasons at the club. His replacement, former Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick certainly knows a thing or two about winning as well.
Barcelona ‘shockingly’ appoint Hansi Flick as new manager
Hans-Dieter “Hansi” Flick is a person any team in Europe would be happy to have as coach. The former FC Bayern and German national team manager has been tipped to succeed Xavi Hernandez as head coach at Barca. Despite the striking contrast in style of play and managerial philosophy, many believe that the German will be a good fit for the Blaugrana.
With his arrival, the club is highly likely to undergo a transformation of sorts. Flick brings with him an increased priority on physical fitness, something which has traditionally not been of importance at FC Barcelona. He also brings with him a revised set of transfer targets which will best suit his style of play.
At Bayern, Flick focused on a more direct and fast form of attacking football, something which is in contrast to the philosophy at Barcelona. There are several reports that Flick’s first signing as Barcelona manager will be Bayern midfielder Joshua Kimmich. The 29-year-old’s contract with the club expires in the summer of 2025.
