84 days after winning the titles, The Judgment Day finally defended their World Tag Team Championships. On the latest episode of Raw, Finn Balor and JD McDonagh put the titles on the line against The New Day. Despite a valiant effort from the veteran team, the champs somehow scrapped a win. Following their loss, Xavier Woods lashed out at his partner, Kofi Kingston.
The argument spread to the back, as Woods blamed the LWO for interfering in their match. Kingston separated the two sides and thanked the Latino group for their help. Further, the former WWE Champion tried to calm his friend down. Kofi revealed that he has asked Dragon Lee and co. for backup in case the rest of The Judgment Day interfered. However, Woods didn’t take kindly to this.
The 38-year-old star accused his friend of undermining him and not believing that he could finish the job. For weeks, tensions have flared within The New Day. A few months back, the tag team celebrated their 10th year anniversary of their formation. Over the past decade, their bond remained strong while other stables notoriously split or broke up.
As a result, their recent spat has surprised the WWE Universe, who’ve become invested in the ongoing storyline. Moreover, this has sparked speculation about a potential Big E return. Many believe that the former NXT Champion will return soon to sort out the differences between his two closest friends. Having said that, only time will tell what the future holds for The New Day.
How a referee blunder cost Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston the world tag titles on Raw
The aforementioned tag team title bout had a controversial finish. In the closing minutes of the match, The Judgment Day ran interference, which led to LWO making the save. Kofi Kingston dove to the outside as he joined the brawl. Meanwhile, Xavier Woods hit a top rope elbow on JD McDonagh inside the ring.
Woods and the Portland crowd thought the former had the match won. However, the referee had rushed out of the ring to deal with the mayhem outside. This allowed the world tag champs to capitalize and retain their titles. As such, Woods felt that Kingston’s involvement in the brawl indirectly cost them the bout and a chance to become 13-time champions.
On the other hand, the referee received flak from the WWE Universe. Many noted that officials usually do not go outside of the ring to resolve such disputes. Therefore, this had not only resulted in The New Day’s loss, but it further spurred conflict within the group. Nevertheless, fans are hoping that the beloved tag team receives another opportunity following this discrepancy on Raw.
