The Indianapolis Colts had the opportunity to add a talented and fast wide receiver to their roster at the cost of the Kansas City Chiefs. Unfortunately, the team failed to kill two birds with one stone when they nearly drafted Xavier Worthy.

The wide receiver admitted to receiving a call from the Indianapolis Colts when the 2024 NFL Draft kicked off. But for some reason, the team’s representative on the other end of the phone never uttered a word. Xavier Worthy shared his experience in the days leading up to the 2024 NFL Draft on the Rich Eisen Show.

The wideout did not expect Kansas City to draft him because he got more interest from other teams. Indianapolis was one of the teams.

On draft night I’m in Austin Texas in the Hills in Westlake. I did my draft party there and really, draft day was crazy. I got a call at 15, 16, I think it was the Colts, hung up the phone in my face. It was a little crazy…The Colts called my phone on draft day and hung up the phone….

Worthy recounted how he almost joined the Colts, but the team seemed to have changed its mind at the last moment.

The Colts decided to go in a different direction. The team selected edge rusher Laiatu Latu from UCLA to strengthen their defense. It remains uncertain if the team made a blunder by dialing Worthy or if it was just last-minute jitters. The latter seems to be the case.

Xavier Worthy was picked 28th overall by the Kansas City Chiefs. He is in a better position than he would have been had the Colts picked him. He has a quarterback who does not leave the game halfway through after getting gassed out. The best part ought to be the fact that he has played a valuable role in the team’s undefeated 7-0 streak this season.

Xavier Worthy was pleasantly surprised after the Chiefs drafted him. Kansas City traded up to 28 from the Bills but the wide receiver was unaware of this.

I really originally didn’t know they traded with Buffalo, so when they was on the clock, I’m sitting in the car, I’m like ‘Oh this is Buffalo’ and then I look at the thing, it said KC, I’m like OK, this is the Chiefs, exactly where I want to be.
