This offseason, the reigning Super Bowl champions have focused primarily on their wide receivers’ crisis as they possessed one of the worst receiving squads across the league last season. Given that they are aiming for a three-peat, they ought to have offensive weapons in the roster.

One of them shone quite brightly during the NFL Draft, as the Kansas City Chiefs drafted Xavier Worthy. However, joining a future dynasty puts Worthy’s weight under scrutiny as he prepares for the rookie minicamp.

Worthy impressed the Chiefs, especially head coach Andy Reid, for his remarkable speed at the NFL Combine after his all-time best 40-yard dash in 4.21 seconds. Unfortunately, as fast as the young receiver he is, critics have raised major concerns over his weight, which is 169 lbs currently. As many believe, his lean frame may cost a hefty price to the Chiefs against larger opponents.

But when the concern reached the ears of the former Longhorn, he assured that his weight wouldn’t be a problem in the NFL, neither for him nor for his team, in a conversation with Sports Illustrated

I don't think I took big hits, I delivered them--I feel like it's not going to be a problem. I feel like just understanding your strengths and your weaknesses, I feel like that's the big thing in the league.
Xavier Worthy told Worthy to the SI interviewer

The 28th overall pick of the 2024 Draft claimed that his focus is understanding his strengths and weaknesses and looking forward to his formation in the league to be capable of taking the lead.

While talking about his ‘questionable’ weight, Worthy argued his potential by naming the NFL legend DeSean Jackson, who once stood in the same spot as Worthy today. Naming him, Worthy argued that head coach Reid had previously dealt with a player such as him and it turned out better than what everyone expected.

Worthy also shared that after being compared to the legend in the NFL draft, he had been watching football films featuring Jackson and Tavon Austin to learn their playing style. It’s to be seen though whether this high talk by the Chiefs rookie comes to fruition or becomes a dud.
