Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy was arrested on Friday from Williamson County, Texas, and charged with assaulting a member of his household/ family by impeding their breathing. The initial reports failed to mention the victim of Worthy’s alleged assault. The victim has been identified as one Tia Jones, who happens to be Worthy’s fiancee.

The story is deeper than what the initial headlines suggested. Xavier Worthy received some positive news after Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick revealed that they do not intend to pursue legal action against the star.

In a statement to the Austin American Standard, Dick justified the decision to decline the case.

After further investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and further discussion with a third-party witness, Mr. Worthy and his attorneys, this case is being declined at this time.

The statement read

Worthy’s attorneys Chip Lewis and Sam Bassett released their statement following his arrest. They blamed Tia Jones and her actions.

Xavier Worthy’s fiancee caused physical harm to him and his property

As per their statement, they confirm that Worthy came to know of Tia Jones’ infidelity and asked her to vacate his property, however, rather than oblige, she went on to take her anger and frustrations out on him.

This makes things easier for Xavier Worthy as his NFL career could have taken a turn for the worse or possibly ended if he were to be found guilty. To make matters worse, Tia Jones is alleged to have caused harm to Worthy’s residential property and him by damaging rooms and ripping out his hair. 0

The complainant further destroyed a room in the residence, scratched Mr. Worthy’s face and ripped out parts of his hair, which there is photographic evidence of. Worthy told law enforcement at the time of the incident he did not want to press charges against the complainant.

For now, Worthy is not interested in pressing charges, and while he is almost in the clear, there is a possibility of the DA pursuing legal action if more evidence were to surface.

Despite the relief granted by law, Worthy is being investigated by the NFL. The league conducts its independent investigation into allegations made against players for violation of the moral conduct policy. However, considering that the legal investigation has held him to be innocent, the odds of him facing a suspension or being penalized are low.
