It has only been a couple of months since the Kansas City Chiefs took Xavier Worthy as the 28th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. And it did not take him long to add his name to the Chiefs’ hall of offseason controversies.

On3.com reported that Worthy was set to sign a rookie deal worth $13.8 million with $6.8 million as a signing bonus with the Chiefs. His latest social media post suggested that he might have secured it.

A TikTok video showed Worthy celebrating with his girlfriend Tia Jones. The Texas graduate had several dollar bills in his hand and threw them into the air.

Xavier Worthy faced criticism for showing off on social media

Worthy broke and set the record for the fastest 40-yard dash during the Combine, attracting attention to him. The Chiefs traded one spot with the Buffalo Bills, moving up to draft the Longhorns speedster, announcing their intent to strengthen the lackluster receiver core.

However, as many had hoped to hear, he hasn’t set the Chiefs rookie camp or the OTAs on fire. The sudden display of money-splurging left a bad taste in everyone’s mouths. Few even compared the act with former NFL receiver Antonio Brown who recently announced bankruptcy.

One Bills supporter took a jab by comparing Worthy to Keon Coleman, whom the Chiefs passed to move up. Coleman has been a hit with the fans with his skills as a player and his maturity in handling tough questions during press conferences.

This comes after ESPN’s Courtney Cronin revealed that Xavier Worthy tweaked his hamstring last week. He is mainly an observer at this point, but is on the path to a quick recovery.

The 21-year-old remains a popular name since his addition to the Chiefs squad. He made headlines when a video showed his unimpressed reactions following a visit to the Chiefs facility, which was ranked second bottom in 2023.

Earlier this month, news broke that someone stole his car from his Kansas City residence. The Police are still searching for the vehicle and the individual who ran off with it.

Worthy played three seasons with the Longhorns, with the 2023 campaign being the best of the lot. He recorded 75 receptions for 1014 yards (13.5 yards per catch) and 5 touchdowns in 14 games.
