The New York Yankees suffered another damaging defeat against the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday. The Bronx Bombers lost 7-1 against the AL East division leaders. The team once again made some defensive errors, which led to the fans losing their cool on social media.

Coming into this matchup, the Yankees were 3 games behind the Blue Jays. The New York-based side has a poor record against them this year.

The Yankees had their captain, Aaron Judge, playing in the right field for the first time since July 25. Since his return from injury, the 2-time AL MVP was playing as the designated hitter (DH) with Giancarlo Stanton taking the outfield.

In the first inning, the Blue Jays jumped on and put pressure on Cam Schlitter. The young pitcher would load up the bases after starting the innings with 2 strikeouts. On the 38th pitch of the inning, Nathan Lukes would hit a single into right field.

While Judge grabbed the ball on the hop, he did not throw it to the catcher. The Blue Jays added 2 runs through this and took a 3-0 lead. This led some to wonder whether playing him in right field was the right decision. Schlitter wrapped the first inning on a 40 pitch count.

Schlitter continued to struggle in the 2nd inning. With 2 runners on board, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. would hit a line drive to left field. Despite a dive, Cody Bellinger was unable to catch the ball, which loaded up the bases again.

A sacrifice fly from Bo Bichette would make it a 4-0 game. Manager Aaron Boone would eventually take the ball from his hand after 66 pitches, bringing an early end to his outing.

Another poor display in defense from the Yankees came in the 5th inning when they were 5-1 down. Bichette would hit a fly ball that would go high into the right field. Both Aaron Judge and Jazz Chisholm Jr. would try to field it. In the end, none of them were able to grab it as the ball fell between the two Yankees stars.

The Blue Jays added runs in the 8th and 9th inning and took down their rivals 7-1 in their own backyard. With this win, they are now 4 games ahead of the Yankees in the pennant race.

While speaking with the reporters after the game, the 7-time MLB All-Star claimed that he would not be in right field if he was not feeling it.

I wouldn’t be in the outfield if I wasn’t able to make that throw… My first thought was to get it in to Jazz (Chisholm Jr.), get it in to whoever, just for them to make that throw. Because my first thought was trying to make the play, and (the ball) just kind of died before it got to me. So, my next thought is, ‘Hey, try to get it in as soon as you can and see what happens.

Manager Aaron Boone was also asked about Judge not making the throw. After being pressed further, the former Yankees star gave an intriguing answer.

We’re handling it how we handle it, okay?

Aaron Boone told the reporters

Before his return to the team in August, Boone claimed that Judge was unlikely to throw the ball again this year like he usually does. The outfielder would take issue with this comment and hit back at his skipper. Going forward, Judge and Stanton are expected to split time in the outfield.
