As per the latest report from MLB insider Jon Morosi, the New York Yankees and Walker Buehler may end up on the same team. They apparently share “mutual interest” as the pitcher goes through the best team options in the free agency.
The top team for Buehler would be his former side, the Los Angeles Dodgers. However, in case they both fail to come to terms in a contract, there’s a high chance he may end up in Bronx.
The theory of Walker Buehler in the Bronx may seem to surprise many as he delivered the demolishing blow to the Yankees in Game 5 of the World Series. He was the one to close the game and drive the Dodgers to their Fall Classic victory.
The Yankees are once again looking forward to stepping into the October spotlight and they’ll need a good rotation to do so. Free agent pitcher Walker Buehler is one of the options available in the market.

Apart from him, the Yankees are also interested in Jack Flaherty, the LA Dodgers’ current free-agent pitcher. According to Jon Morosi, the Yankees and the Dodgers are the top contenders for Flaherty, but the San Diego Padres and the LA Angels may also be in contention.
Speaking on Teoscar Hernandez’s free agency, Morosi mentioned that he believes the Boston Red Sox is one of the strongest contenders for him. Although the fans have cried out to the Dodgers to re-sign Hernandez, there hasn’t been any official update yet. However, the team noted that signing Hernandez will be their primary focus.
Walker Buehler’s postseason performance hypes pitcher’s resume in free agency
Walker Buehler experienced a wobbly 2024 performance, but his slow start was compensated by his extraordinary play in the postseason. He shined in Game 3 of both the NLDS and the World Series, and ended up playing the hero for the WS Game 5.
According to Spotrac, Buehler is expected to sign a contract of $3.9 million after coming off his second Tommy John surgery in 2022. His best season was in 2021, where he recorded a 2.47 ERA over 207.2 innings in 33 starts.

While his legacy was affected after the surgery, he got his chance to once again cement his name in the best of the spotlights in the World Series. If the Yankees get to sign Buehler, it’ll help the team to strengthen their pitching rotation led by veteran Gerrit Cole.
