According to MLB  insider Hector Gomez, a New York Yankee executive boldly stated that they “won’t lose” against anyone if it comes down to financial battle in Juan Soto‘s free agency. Currently, the two big teams standing in the Yankees’ way are the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers.

Mets owner Steve Cohen, well known for his deep pockets in the free agency, is scheduled to meet with Soto and his agent Scott Boras soon. While many believe they’ll be the victors of this Juan Soto war, the Yankees are not losing ground.

Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner has also scheduled a flight to Southern California to meet with Soto. Given how the 4x All-Star was able to head into World Series, alongside his 2024 overall performance record, Steinbrenner hopes he stays with the Bombers.

While Soto has time and again expressed his love for New York, the argument comes down to which team he’ll choose: the Yankees or the Mets? Then again, the LA Dodgers are also big spenders of the free agency.

While there’s a chance they may go for Roki Sasaki, and Soto might not be interested in settling down West, they are still a strong competitor. The new number for Juan Soto’s contract could be $600 million, or even $700 million.

If it’s about money, you can be sure we won’t lose him in the free agency.

He is expected to get an AAV of $50 million, surpassing Shohei Ohtani’s $46 million, deferred from his $700 million contract. Cohen can be pretty aggressive in free agency, especially for a player like Soto. If the Yankees want him back in the Bronx, they might just have to out-spend Cohen in millions of dollars.

Yankees podcast host blasts MLB analyst for absurd claim on Juan Soto free agency

Recently, MLB analyst Harold Reynolds stated that the Toronto Blue Jays, who have emerged as a dark horse in the Juan Soto race, have a better chance at signing him than the Yankees. His claim got severely criticized by ‘Yankees Unloaded’ podcast host Gary Sheffield Jr. on social media.

Gary Sheffield Jr. shut down his idea of the Yankees losing grounds to the Blue Jays by stating that Soto wouldn’t sign with the team after tasting the World Series environment. The Blue Jays have not qualified for the postseason since 2016.

Harold Reynolds says the Blue Jays have a better chance of signing Juan Soto this offseason than the Yankees, whom he just attended a World Series with. It’s okay to think the Jays have shot at the player but to suggest there’s higher odds for that than a return is hilarious.

MLB Network analyst Cameron Maybin added to the comments stating how he thought the same when he saw Reynolds’ comment.

Man I was thinking the same thing when I saw that! Like no way he actually believed that.

Cameron Maybin tweeted

Gary Sheffield Jr. further added that the Blue Jays surely can bid for Juan Soto, but to think they can land him over competitors like the Yankees, Mets, and Dodgers, is “very funny”. Regardless of who Soto ends up with, the 2024 free agency is heating up.
