The New York Yankees fans are absolutely loyal to their team and will try everything to make sure they win, literally everything. Game 4 of the World Series just took another wild turn as a pair of Yankees fans tried to steal a foul ball off of Mookie Betts‘ glove.
While fans are often seen trying to catch a foul ball, never in baseball has anyone seen a fan getting in direct contact with a player and trying to steal a ball. The incident spread like wildfire on social media as everyone, including Yankees fans, criticized the duo for their actions.
The scene took place at the bottom of the first inning when Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts tried to chase a foul ball close to the stands hit by Gleyber Torres. Betts caught the ball but eventually dropped it during the hustle.
While the Yankees fans succeeded in misplacing the ball, the umpires called out for fan interference and the game was nullified. Security immediately took measures and escorted out the duo from the stadium.

While umpire Mark Carlson immediately called for interference, the Yankees fans kept struggling to steal the ball from Betts’ glove. It was reported that the fan sitting next to the other one tried to pry open Betts’ gloves aggressively.
New York Yankees legendary voice John Sterling expressed his utter disappointment with the situation. He also seemed almost apologetic to Mookie Betts. He said he has never witnessed any such situation during his 49 years of broadcasting.
I’ve seen people go for baseballs before. In my 49 years of broadcasting baseball, I’ve never seen that.
John Sterling on WFAN radio call.
His partner Suzyn Waldman further spoke on the situation saying, “This guy should be kicked out of this game.” Sterling echoed his sentiment noting, “I couldn’t agree more.”
Social media reacts to bizarre Yankees fan vs. Mookie Betts situation
The NY Yankees fans vs. Mookie Betts situation has shocked the whole baseball world. Fans are surprised to see such actions even if the team is in dire need of a win.

Before winning Game 4 with an 11-4 record, they were down 3-0 by the Dodgers. However, their loss did not justify the fans’ actions in the Game 4 first inning. Fans and pundits on social media are going crazy over the incident, commenting and criticizing the duo’s actions. One X user noted, “Poor behavior…I feel bad for the fans but this is unacceptable.”
In Game 3, the Yankees fans tried cheering their captain Aaron Judge out of his slump with an ovation. While that did not work out well, two of them must’ve thought of directly interfering with the game, even if it meant fan interference.
That guy should be arrested. He could have broken Mookie’s arm. But he will just be upgraded to a luxury box. NYC sucks!

However, they not only got kicked out of the stadium, they even got criticized by their group for their actions. After the Yankees win, the World Series is now 3-1 with Dodgers leading the game.
