In the midst of the MLB Hall of Fame celebration, the name of former New York Yankees star Mariano Rivera has come up in the spotlight. It though is not for a good reason as he and his wife Clara have been alleged to have covered up a s*xual assault of a minor. He and his wife have broken their silence regarding this.
On Wednesday, a bombshell regarding Rivera was dropped. As per reports, the MLB Hall of Famer and his wife failed to act after a minor was s*xually assaulted at a summer camp connected to their church, Refuge of Hope church in New Rochelle.
A lawsuit was filed on January 16 in the New York Supreme Court. The minor identified as Jane Doe, claimed that the incident took place during a summer internship program in 2018 at the church of Rivera. The alleged abuser is claimed to be an older female minor who has been addressed as “MG”.
Doe alleged that both Mariano Rivera and his wife Clara separately spoke with her. Instead of helping her, the couple allegedly told her to remain silent. The 13-time MLB All-Star also claimed to have paid the expenses of Doe to ensure that she could attend the summer program.
Reacting to these claims, Rivera and his wife issued a statement through their representatives. In the statement, the couple claimed that these allegations were “completely false”.

Will Mariano Rivera be removed from the MLB Hall of Fame after recent allegations?
The allegation of covering up a s*xual assault of a minor against Mariano Rivera and his wife Clara has left the MLB fanbase in shock. This has also led to many wondering whether Rivera will be removed from the MLB Hall of Fame if he is found guilty of doing so.
The 55-year-old was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame in 2019. On his very first try, the relief pitcher accumulated 100 percent of the votes and was a unanimous inductee. As of 2025, he is still the only player to have received all the votes.
Players are usually voted into the Hall of Fame for their on-field achievements. On some occasions, off-field activities also come into consideration into the induction into the Hall of Fame like the usage of steroids or gambling as seen with the likes of Alex Rodriguez, Barry Bonds, and Pete Rose.
Now there is concern among some that Rivera might be removed from Cooperstown if the allegations are true. As of now, no player has been removed from the Hall of Fame. With the case still going on, it is uncertain whether his name will be excluded from the Hall.
