The New York Yankees have been highly active in the offseason after missing out on Juan Soto. In an effort to strengthen their team, the Bronx Bombers are looking to offload one of their starting pitchers Marcus Stroman. As per an MLB insider, the San Diego Padres are emerging
as a potential trade target for him.
The Yankees acquired Stroman last year in January. They signed him on a two-year $37 million deal and inserted him in their pitching rotation.
In the 2024 season, Marcus Stroman went 10-9 with an high ERA of 4.31. He managed to pick up just 113 strikeouts throughout the campaign. His performances in the second half of the season saw him being dropped from the 26-man roster for the ALDS.
He was re-added to the roster as the team advanced to the ALCS. However, he did not make any postseason appearances with the Yankees.

This raised questions regarding his future with the team. With the signing of Max Fried on an 8-year $218 deal, Stroman became the fifth option in the Yankee pitching rotation.
As per Jon Morosi, the Padres have now emerged as a potential trade target for him. With the Yankees seemingly looking at Luis Arraez, speculations have now risen about a trade deal between the two teams which could see the three-time batting champion arrive at the Bronx while Stroman heads to San Diego.
NY Yankees linked with two top stars as infield option for replacement of Gleyber Torres
In the offseason, the New York Yankees lost infielder Gleyber Torres to free agency. The second baseman has joined the Detroit Tigers, leaving a huge void in the infield of the Yankees. The 27-time World Series winners have now been linked with two top stars as his replacement.
As per Mark Sanchez of the New York Post, the Yankees have checked in on veteran infielder Jorge Polanco. After a down season in 2024 with the Seattle Mariners, Polanco underwent a knee surgery in early October. According to Sanchez, the 31-year-old has started picking up ground balls at the three bases and has started hitting as well.

In the 118 games he played, he hit just .213 with 16 home runs and a .651 OPS. Apart from that, his defensive plays at the second base were also a bit poor.
The other name is of Padres’ Ha-Seong Kim. The Yankees are interested in bringing over the Gold Glove winner to the team. They were previously reported to be looking at Gavin Lux. However, they lost the race for him to the Cincinnati Reds.
