Brian Cashman’s and Hal Steinbrenner’s update on Aaron Boone’s contract fired up the New York Yankees fans on social media. Many were upset about a possible extension while several supported his role and importance in the team’s lineup.

Since the Yankees failed to steal the World Series crown from their opponents, let alone even qualify for the postseason several times, fans were asking for a change. However, the 2024 postseason game changed the landscape for Boone’s extended opportunity.

In 2024 the pinstripes reached the World Series in quite a while even though they ultimately fell to the current champions – the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games. The fact that Boone led the team to the postseason solidified his position as a manager for the New York Yankees.

The club picked up Aaron Boone’s 2025 option at $3 million and decided to sit down and finalize an extension after offseason trades. Recently, Brian Cashman noted that he and Hal Steinbrenner are in talks about Boone’s contract extension which can possibly happen before the Opening Day games.

There’s a lot of slings and arrows coming our way, despite even last year having a nice run. It wasn’t ultimately what we wanted at the end, but at the end of the day, he’s handled the ups and downs, the successes and failures, all the same way.

Cashman even predicted that there would be a “feeding frenzy” among teams to get Boone’s services if they fail to retain him with the deal. He said he’s impressed with how Boone handles the players and would want him to stay with the team long-term.

Following the contract extension talks, Aaron Boone expressed how he’d like no more than to stay with the New York Yankees and be part of their championship victory this time around. He said that there is not place he’d rather be than in NY.
