In the past few days, the world of sports has been shaken by some blockbuster trade moves. Whether its the Dallas Mavericks trading away Luka Doncic or the Colorado Avalanche giving away Mikko Rantanen, the internet has been left shocked. It is now time for the New York Yankees fans to celebrate as they have re-signed veteran reliever Tim Hill.
The 34-year-old started the 2024 season on the Chicago White Sox. In the middle of the season, he was released by the American League Central team. He would later join the Yankees, where he established himself as a top member of the bullpen.
The southpaw pitched with a low 2.05 ERA in 44 innings over 35 games for the Yankees in relief situations. In the postseason run, Hill was dominant once again. In 10 games across the postseason, he only gave up one allowed run and had a 1.08 ERA through 8.1 innings.
Many even questioned why coach Aaron Boone picked Nestor Cortes over him in Game 1 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Cortes, who had just returned from an injury, threw just two pitches and gave up a walk-off grand slam to Freddie Freeman.
The Yankees have now got him back. As per reports from MLB.com, Hill re-joins the Bronx Bombers on a one-year $2.85 million deal. He does have a $3 million club option for 2026 as per insider Jeff Passan.
Left-handed reliever Tim Hill and the New York Yankees are in agreement on a one-year, $2.85 million contract that includes a club option for 2026, sources tell ESPN. Hill, 34, had a 2.05 ERA in 44 innings for New York last year. Option is for $3 million with $350K buyout.

The signing of Hill also comes at a time when the team is facing backlash from the fans and critics for not spending money. Recently, reports emerged that the Yankees did not want to cross the luxury tax payroll threshold to avoid penalties. This led to Passan himself unloading on them for this.

At the moment, the Yankees are also looking to offload starting pitcher Marcus Stroman. It remains to be seen whether giving him away will lead to them making another big-name signing this offseason.
