As the offseason continues, the New York Yankees are still trying to come to an agreement with Cody Bellinger. According to reports, the team is now ready to let him walk following their latest $160 million offer.
Bellinger has been one name that has been constantly linked with the Yankees. Following a successful 2025 season in the Bronx, the 2-time All-Star opted out of his deal and decided to test free agency once again.
Since the start of the offseason, the American League side has been trying to find ways to bring back the outfielder. Last week, reports claimed that they were willing to offer him more than $30 million per year. However, Bellinger was seeking a 7-year deal.

Amid reports of the New York Mets holding an interest in him, the Yankees have now held internal discussions. According to Bob Klapisch, the Bronx Bombers believe that their latest 5-year, $160 million offer, which includes two opt-outs, is a fair deal.
The team will let him walk if he does not accept this offer. They will also not get involved in a bidding war if the Mets or any other team swoops in and presents him with their offers.
#Yankees have made an internal decision not to engage in a bidding war for Cody Bellinger if #Mets or anyone else swoops in with a blow-away offer. Yankees believe they've made a fair proposal – five years, $160 million, two opt-outs. They're prepared to let Bellinger walk.

A few days ago, the Mets were involved in the sweepstakes for Kyle Tucker. As per insider Jon Heyman, they offered him a 4-year, $220 million deal. However, the 4-time All-Star chose the offer of the Los Angeles Dodgers and joined the reigning World Series champions.
Hours after missing out on the outfielder, they landed Bo Bichette. The Mets offered him a 3-year, $126 million deal and grabbed him from the grasp of the Philadelphia Phillies.
Earlier, the Yankees were confident that Bellinger would not follow in the footsteps of Juan Soto and skip to the Mets. With the way things have panned out in the past few days, they are now prepared to move on from him and are looking at other trade options.

Yankees facing stiff competition from Dodgers over reported trade move for Freddy Peralta
While re-signing Cody Bellinger is one of the biggest priorities for the New York Yankees this offseason, they are also looking to add some arms to their pitching rotation. At the moment, they face stiff competition from the Los Angeles Dodgers over their reported move for Freddy Peralta.

Two weeks ago, reports emerged that the Yankees were looking at Peralta and Miguel Cabrera as potential trade candidates. A few days later, they lost out on Cabrera as the Chicago Cubs agreed to a trade deal with the Miami Marlins over him.
According to Brendan Kuty, Peralta has “heavy interest” from the Yankees. With Carlos Rodon and Gerrit Cole both set to miss the start of the season, the Yanks want to add a strong starting pitcher to their rotation.

However, they face stiff competition from the Dodgers regarding Peralta. They are reported to be making a strong push for the All-Star pitcher.

Peralta, who will become a free agent after the 2026 season, has a salary of $8 million this year. Apart from the Dodgers and the two New York teams, the San Francisco Giants and the Atlanta Braves are also reported to be interested in him.
Brewers continue to field offers on ace pitcher Freddy Peralta, a free agent after 2026. Yankees, Mets, Dodgers, Giants and Braves among many, many interested teams. Peralta $8M salary means anyone can afford, including Brewers, but extension tougher for small markets.

So, if the Yankees are to land him, they will need to beat out some of the top teams. They did add a pitcher in Ryan Weathers last week.
Speaking of Peralta, the 29-year-old went 17-6 in his 33 starts last year while picking up 204 strikeouts and pitching with a 2.70 ERA. His 17 wins were the most by any pitcher in the National League. He went on to finish 5th in the race for the NL Cy Young Award.
