The New York Yankees have exercised their 2025 club option for manager Aaron Boone. Many were already expecting this outcome as Boone led the Yankees to their first WS in 15 years since 2009.

Although the team lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games, the accomplishment of advancing added to his resume. GM Brian Cashman said the organization would further discuss a possible extension with Boone later in the future.

Boone is scheduled to speak with the media on Monday through a video call. It’ll be his eighth season with the Bronx Bombers. During his tenure, Aaron Boone led the team to 94 AL victories and to its 41st World Series advancement.

I am grateful for the trust placed in me to lead this team. It’s a responsibility — and an opportunity — that I will never take lightly…I am already looking forward to reporting for Spring Training in Tampa and working tirelessly to return the Yankees to the postseason to compete for a World Championship.

Despite criticisms surrounding the Yankees’ decision on Boone, Brian Cashman remained positive about his mentorship. He talked about Boone’s presence in the clubhouse and his relationship with the players. Cashman believes these abilities will help them win the World Championship title again, maybe in 2025.

Aaron is a steadying presence in our clubhouse and possesses a profound ability to connect with and foster relationships with his players. Consistently exhibiting these skills in such a demanding and pressurized market is what makes him one of the game’s finest managers.

However, former Yankees outfielder Ruben Sierra believes that the Yankees decided on Aaron Boone with “friendship” in mind and not judging the situation partially. He took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to note out his frustration, saying how he’s confused about the role of managers in today’s sport.

Sierra stated that when he used to play “the manager’s role was to win games, not to be everyone’s friend.” He feels the Yankees decision to keep Boone may have been influenced by their long-standing relationship.

Fans were critical of Aaron Boone’s return primarily because of his miscue in Game 1. In the final moment in Game 1, Boone called for Nestor Cortes to pitch which resulted in them losing the game.

Mostly, everyone blamed Boone for calling in Cortes, who had not pitched since September 18, to face the LA Dodgers‘ star-studded lineup in the World Series. Furthermore, he didn’t manage the bullpen in Game 5, which ultimately signaled LA’s win.

Aaron Boone’s return to the NY Yankees as the manager was not without noise. Many called out the organization for going soft on Boone and allowing his return, especially after a disastrous World Series run.

While the fans celebrated their Fall Classic advancement, they were extremely upset to see the team lose Game 1 and Game 5, which could’ve been won. Due to players’ mistakes and wrong management, the team handed the victory to the Dodgers.

One X user commented, “Sigh. Nothing changes,” while another added, “No one wanted this.” One even said, “THIS decision alone should have been the final straw with @Aaron Boone ?” Check more reactions below:

With Aaron Boone officially back with the Yankees, he is determined to take the team to the World Series once again. After reaching the big stage after 15 years, the organization is trying its best to fill in its roster before the start of the 2025 games.
