The New York Yankees’ 2025 season has come to an end. On Wednesday, the 2024 American League Champions lost 5-2 in Game 4 of the American League Division Series (ALDS) and suffered elimination at the hands of the Toronto Blue Jays.

After losing the first two games in Toronto, the Yankees enforced Game 4 with a 9-6 comeback win on Tuesday. A 3-run home run from Aaron Judge turned out to be the highlight moment from that game and kept their season alive.

Just like this entire series, the Blue Jays once again took an early lead. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. put his side ahead in the 1st inning with a single. Ryan McMahon tied the game for the Yanks with a solo home run in the bottom of the 3rd inning.

The Blue Jays retook the lead with a sacrifice fly from George Springer in the 5th inning. An error from Jazz Chisholm Jr. in the 7th inning saw the visitors have runners on 1st and 3rd base instead of a routine inning-ending double play.

That error proved costly as Nathan Lukes would hit a single, which saw the runners come home and make it a 4-1 game. A single from Myles Straw in the 8th inning extended that lead to 5-1. Despite a single from Judge in the 9th inning, the Yankees were unable to mount a comeback this time and suffered a 5-2 loss, which ended their season.

The Blue Jays dominated their AL East rivals throughout the entire season. After going 8-5 in the regular season against them, they once again flexed their muscles on the New York side. They finish the year going 11-6 against them.

In the 4 games of the series, the Blue Jays managed to pick up 50 hits and scored 34 runs. The Yankees, meanwhile, had 34 hits and scored just 19 runs.

Social media would go into frenzy following the loss of the Yankees. Many fans on X trolled the Bronx Bombers for their loss. Yankees fans, meanwhile, took a shot at the team management and once again demanded the firing of Aaron Boone. One user wrote, “time for Boone to go” while making their feelings known.

The Blue Jays will now play in their first ALCS since 2016. That year, they lost 4-1 against the Cleveland Guardians. As for the Yankees, the wait for championship No. 28 will go on for another year.

Will Aaron Boone return to manage Yankees in 2026?

After another promising regular season, the New York Yankees stumbled again in the playoffs. Their loss on Wednesday was the 7th time the Yanks lost in the playoffs under manager Aaron Boone, leading to several questions regarding his future.

After losing in the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers last year, the Yankees would exercise the club option for him for the 2025 season. He would then sign a 2-year extension which would keep him at the club until 2027.

Following the loss on Wednesday, Boone expressed that he expects to return as the manager of the team in 2026. He claimed that he was “under contract” with the team and would thus return to his position next year.

Boone has been the manager of the team since 2018, after the Yankees did not retain Joe Girardi. Since then, he has a 697-497 record in the regular season and a 25-27 record in the postseason. He has suffered 3 eliminations from the Division Series, 2 from the Championship Series, 1 from the Wild Card, and 1 in the World Series.
