On Thursday, the New York Yankees suffered another defeat. The Bronx Bombers lost 8-5 against the Toronto Blue Jays and got swept in a 4-game series against their division rivals, which left the fans fuming on social media.

After starting the year in hot form, the Yankees have gone cold in recent weeks. After sweeping the Kansas City Royals in June, the team had a 42-25 record and sat comfortably at the top of the American League East Division.

However, things have gone downhill since then. The team went on a 6-game losing run, which saw them get swept by the Boston Red Sox and the Los Angeles Angels.

Coming into this 4-game series against the Blue Jays, the Yankees held a 3-game lead. After a close 5-4 loss to close out the month of June, the New York-based side got crushed 12-5 by the Blue Jays on Canada Day. On Wednesday, the Yankees did mount an epic comeback and erased an 8-0 deficit, they still ended up losing by an 11-9 score line and were tied for the 1st place in the AL East.

In the game on Thursday, George Springer once again took matters into his own hands. The former Houston Astros star had another two-homer game against the Yankees in this series as the Blue Jays won 8-5 and swept their opponents.

Springer finished the series going 8-for-14 with 4 home runs and 11 RBI. This is the first time since 2016 that the Blue Jays are sitting on top of the division alone this late into a season.

Social media reacts to Yankees getting swept by the Blue Jays

The New York Yankees getting swept in a 4-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays was probably not on the cards of many. Despite their poor form, many believed that the team could at least get one win against the Canadian team.

Unfortunately for the Yankees fans, their team got swept by the Blue Jays. Following the loss on Thursday, several fans were left fuming on social media.

On X, users once again demanded changes to be made to the team. Manager Aaron Boone found himself in hot water again. Meanwhile, one fan wrote, “Disgrace of a team” while expressing that the team will get crushed in the playoffs, if they make it through.

Check out that and some other reactions from X below:

As for the Blue Jays, things have turned drastically for them. After losing 13-0 to the Tampa Bay Rays on May 25, the team was left with a 25-27 record. In the course of the next five weeks, the team has turned their fortunes around and is now leading the AL East with a 49-38 record.

Yankees to face off against fellow strugglers Mets in Subway Series

The New York Yankees are having a major dip in form. The 27-time World Series winner is struggling for consistency and has lost the top spot in the American League East. They will have to pick themselves quickly as they face their crosstown rivals, the New York Mets, in the Subway Series.

Just like the Yankees, the Mets are also struggling. Both New York teams started the season strongly and were leading their division. However, in recent times, the wheels of their cars have started to come off.

The two teams have lost 14 of their 20 games. The Yankees went from a 42-25 record to 48-39. Whereas, the Mets went from 44-24 to 50-38.

In the 3-game series earlier this year, the Yankees took 2 out of the 3 games in Juan Soto‘s return to the Bronx. This time, the narrative will likely be around the whole team instead of just one player as the two teams try to find a way to bounce back in form.
