The pitching market is heating up in 2024 free agency. With the highlight still on superstar free agent Juan Soto, names like Corbin Burnes, and Max Fried are popping up in Yankees’ diaries.

The New York Yankees recently had a Zoom call with both Burnes and Fried. Some industry sources believe the organization is gearing up for Plan B in case Soto signs up with a rival team in free agency.

The Yankees front office, including Brian Cashman and pitching coach Matt Blake, met with Corbin Burnes in November to talk about a potential signing. While no decision has been made yet, the Yankees remain one of the front runners in the race.

Currently, Juan Soto’s service cost has reached a whopping $600 million with promises to increase in the future. If the team signs Soto offering a high-end contract, it may be difficult to pen Burnes too.

However, MLB insider Jon Heyman of the NY Post believes the New York Yankees can sign both Corbin Burnes and Juan Soto. Currently, the front runners for Burnes race apart from the Yankees are – Toronto Blue Jays, Boston Red Sox, Baltimore Orioles, and San Francisco Giants.

New York Yankees had “very good” chat with pitcher Max Fried

Apart from Corbin Burnes, the New York Yankees also had a “very good” chat with free agent pitcher Max Fried. They had a 90-minute Zoom call which left both the parties satisfied.

According to sources, the call was joined by Yankees nine team officials, including Aaron Boone, Brian Cashman, and pitching coach Matt Blake. Apart from them, the Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, and Toronto Blue Jays are in the race.

Blake Snell was another top pitcher in the free market who recently signed up with the World Series Champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers. He penned a 5-year $182 million deal. The Yankees were also interested in him but ended up losing them to their Fall Classic rivals.

Whether Max Fried or Corbin Burnes joins the Yankees, it’ll surely boost the team’s pitching section. They’ll be a good boost to their already lined-up team of – Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon, Luis Gil, Nestor Cortes, Clarke Schmidt, and Marcus Stroman.
