It seems the New York Yankees’ slumber offseason is coming to an end. Following a slow start, the team has been reported to be involved in trade talks regarding starting pitchers Freddy Peralta and Edward Cabrera.
So far, the Yankees have not signed any high-profile names. The team has been heavily involved in talks regarding Cody Bellinger and are trying to bring back the former National League MVP after he had an impressive season in 2025 with them.
While talks regarding him continue, the Bronx Bombers are now linked with two starting pitchers. According to Chris Kirschner and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the team is in talks with the Miami Marlins, which could see Cabrera heading to New York.
The 27-year-old pitcher is under team control till the 2028 campaign. Last year, he went 8-7 with a 3.53 ERA and 150 strikeouts. This was a major improvement for him as he went 4-8 with a 4.95 ERA in the 2024 season.

Apart from him, the American League side has also continued its talks with the Milwaukee Brewers regarding a trade deal for Freddy Peralta. The right-handed pitcher had an impressive showing in the 2025 season as he led the National League in wins at 17. In 33 starts, he went 17-6 and pitched with a 2.70 ERA while picking up 204 strikeouts.

The New York-based side was previously reported to be in talks regarding Japanese pitcher Tatsuya Imai. In the end, the free agent ended up joining the Houston Astros. Following his deal with the AL West team, reports emerged that the Yankees were not seriously involved in talks with Imai.
As per insider Bryan Hoch, the 27-time World Series winners will be shorthanded in rotation at the start of the season. Carlos Rodon, who underwent elbow surgery, is expected to be back by April or May. Meanwhile, Gerrit Cole is projected to return by May or June after undergoing Tommy John surgery in May last year.
Yankees reportedly make 2nd offer to Cody Bellinger
The New York Yankees are heavily interested in Cody Bellinger. According to reports from Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the team has made a 2nd offer to the 30-year-old outfielder.

Bellinger joined the Yankees in December 2024 through a trade deal from the Chicago Cubs. In his first season with the Yanks, he produced a .272/.334/.480 slash line and had 29 home runs and 98 RBIs in 152 games. He also played in all 3 outfield positions, further showcasing his defensive abilities.

Apart from them, the Cubs have also checked in on him. Bellinger had signed a 3-year, $80 million deal with them in February 2024. The New York Mets, the San Francisco Giants and his former team, the Los Angeles Dodgers are also reported to be interested in the veteran outfielder.
The Yankees, however, have made him one of their top priorities and are now working hard to re-sign him. They are also confident that he would not skip to the Mets like Juan Soto did last offseason when he joined the Queens-based side on a record-breaking $765 million deal.
Speaking of the signings, the Yankees on Sunday agreed to a minor league deal with Paul DeJong. The former St. Louis Cardinals star has received an invitation to the major league spring training.
Over his 9-year MLB career, DeJong has hit 146 home runs and has 432 RBIs. He has played in all infield positions and could provide some backup option at the shortstop position in place of Anthony Volpe, who is expected to be sidelined at the start of the new season.
