On Sunday night, the MLB announced the 2024 Gold Glove awards winners. A record-tying 14 players took home this prestigious honor. The New York Yankees who had three finalists in Alex Verdugo, Anthony Volpe, and Juan Soto, failed to win the award.
The Gold Glove Award is annually given to players for their excellent defensive displays on the field. This year, the Yankees had three finalists in Volpe, Verdugo, and Soto for the shortstop, left fielder, and right fielder positions, respectively.
After falling short last year with the Boston Red Sox, Verdugo once again ended up disappointed. This year, the American League Gold Glove for left fielder went to Cleveland Guardians star Steven Kwan, who won this award for a third successive season.
In 2023, Volpe became the youngest Yankee rookie to win this honor. The shortstop this year ended up finishing behind Kansas City Royals’ emerging star, Bobby Witt Jr.
Meanwhile, Soto previously won this award as a left fielder while playing for the San Diego Padres. Wilyer Abreu of the Red Sox clinched this honor for right field.

This shortcoming of the Yankees star comes a few days after their brutal World Series defeat. In Game 5 against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Yankees committed several defensive errors, leading to a comeback win for the Dodgers.
Fans react to Yankees stars losing out Gold Glove awards
When the trio of Alex Verdugo, Anthony Volpe, and Juan Soto were nominated for the Gold Glove Awards, there was some criticism. While manager Aaron Boone claimed he was not surprised, fans were certainly shocked.

Following the announcement of the winners, fans on social media trolled the Yankees stars. While some claimed that they did not deserve to be nominated in the first place, one fan claimed that after what happened in the World Series, none deserved it.
Another fan lashed at them and wrote, “They all f****** s***” while being clearly not impressed by them. Check out that and some more reactions from X regarding this below:
