The Australian Open 2021 is just one week away from beginning and there is plenty of anticipation and excitement around the tennis fans at the Yarra Valley Classic 2021 which is taking place at the moment. It is one of several small tournaments that are being organized by the WTA to get the players fit, in shape and in touch ahead of the big event. The presence of Serena Williams has especially added weight to the tournament and she is set to face Tsvetana Pironkova in the pre-quarter finals next.

Serena Williams v Tsvetana Pironkova: Preview

Serena Williams has looked in great touch after her recent success in Australia that saw her defeat Naomi Osaka in an exhibition match before getting off to a terrific start in the Yarra Valley Classic 2021. She defeated Daria Gavrilova in straight sets to boost her head-to-head record against her to 4-0. She has been terrific with her forehand so far and will be a handful for Pironkova.

Pironkova is herself in great form coming off the back of two terrific wins. The first came against Ludmilla Samsonova in straight sets and the second was against Donna Vekic where the 33-year-old came back from a set down to clinch a terrific encounter.

The duo has played against each other six times and Williams leads the head-to-head record with a score-line of 5-1. Williams v Pironkova: Prediction

Serena Williams will be the overwhelming favorite to win the match. Despite the fact that Pironkova has been in terrific form over the course of the tournament, beating Williams is not an easy job for any player. Serena would love to brush aside her opponent in straight sets to not tire herself too much but this could go to all three sets if Pironkova players her heart out.

Prediction: Serena Williams to win in straight sets.
