Indian cricket team in the last few years has been blessed with a great pool of players. That also explains the team’s success in multinational tournaments in recent times.
With uncertainty looming around the large careers of players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Mohammad Shami, these young guns have a great chance of booking spots in the main side.
Yashasvi Jaiswal is one such extremely talented product of India’s domestic system and has already made a big mark in his international career. He is a permanent member of the Test team and has made some notable contributions in red ball cricket.
With pure dominance in Indian, Australian and English conditions, many believe the Test format comes naturally to the left-handed opener. Jaiswal though still hasn’t been able to make a mark in the white ball formats and has struggled to make himself a permanent member of those squads.
Despite not being very much a part of the white ball set up, his individual goal in cricket has a lot to do with those forms of the game. In a recent podcast with Raj Shamani, Jaiswal revealed his biggest upcoming individual goal.
Dream? I want to win the championship. I want to win the World Cup for my team and myself. So that is my dream. I want to make the team win the World Cup. The ODI one.

Jaiswal made it clear that his next big goal is to be the reason for India to win the 2027 ODI World Cup. The irony though is that he has played only a single One Day International so far. He made his ODI debut this year against England at Nagpur.
He didn’t have the best first outing and could only manage 15 runs. The left hander wasn’t part of the Champions Trophy that followed and was left out. However, he has been named in the upcoming tour of Australia. With two years left for the World Cup, he can put up some consistent performances if given the opportunity to fulfill his dream.
Captaincy is the next pedestal for Yashasvi Jaiswal
Yashasvi Jaiswal has made many eyeballs tune towards himself with his prolific batting style. An excellent series at home against England, followed by a great start in tough Australian conditions and then doing well in England as well has made him one of the reliable rocks of the Indian team.

However, the batter is still not very satisfied with himself and feels he has a lot to improve upon. In his recent podcast with Raj Shamani, the young left handed batter disclosed more on the topic of self improvement.
Currently, I am focusing a lot on my fitness. I am learning more about my body as I feel that with time, I need to be fitter and need to work more on my skills. Every day, I have to work on myself to evolve myself into a leader. One day, I want to be a captain.

Jaiswal mentioned that he was looking to get to the best version of himself. Eventually though, he doesn’t only want to stick around as a player, but also wants to contribute in the leadership roles. Jaiswal has not been seen in any leadership role when it comes to professional cricket so far.
Jaiswal was offered the captaincy of Goa, and the batter was all set to move out of Mumbai. Unfortunately, a last minute change of mind from the batter made that opportunity die down before becoming reality.
In recent times, there are multiple speculations that Jaiswal might be considered to captain the Rajasthan Royals for IPL 2026 after the uncertainties of Sanju Samson staying in the franchise.
It might give selectors a good look at Jaiswal the leader and if his style could present any good opportunity going forward in national colors. For now, though, fans would love to see Jaiswal in the ODI jersey, making a strong statement in the Australian series.
