Yoel Romero agrees to a new deal with Bellator; expected to make his debut at light-heavyweight
“The Soldier of God” Yoel Romero is headed to Bellator. The 43-year old Cuban has agreed to a new deal with Bellator, and will be making his debut soon for the promotion in 2021.
The veteran Cuban was one among the truckload of fighters released by the UFC recently, and after a plethora of rumors as to where he will be headed to, he has finally found a home in Bellator MMA.
The news was first broken by Ariel Helwani of ESPN MMA, who claimed that Yoel has agreed to a new deal with Bellator and is expected to sign imminently. Ariel also revealed that Yoel would debut in 2021 at 205 pounds, which is the light heavyweight division.

Ariel Helwani tweeted, “Yoel Romero is headed to Bellator. Romero has agreed to a new deal with Bellator, sources say. He is expected to sign imminently. He’ll debut for the promotion in 2021 at 205 pounds. His debut date and fight aren’t set yet, sources say.“
He further tweeted, “Initially, Bellator officials passed on Romero, however, after further talks last week, and with a new chapter at 205, the two sides were able to come to an agreement very recently.“
“I repeat”, Helwani tweeted, bringing up a recent tweet of him which reads, “I tell ya Rumble x Romero at 205 would be a fun one.”
There you have it. After a lot of speculation, Yoel Romero has joined the second most popular MMA promotion company and it will be interesting to see how he fares. Will he cross paths with the incoming Anthony Johnson? Will he strike gold? It all remains to be seen!
