Yoel ‘Soldier of God’ Romero released by UFC despite three fights left in his contract
The number 5th ranked UFC Middleweight fighter ‘Soldier of God’ Yoel Romero parted his ways with UFC after being associated with for almost 7 years. Romero is one of those tough guys in UFC who never go easy on the other fighters, he is the four-time UFC title challenger and despite having three fights left in his contract UFC released him.
Romero’s manager Malki Kawa confirmed this news to MMA fighting. Kawa says, “Romero is ready to move on now and resume his career, and we are already talking to other promotions as we speak”. Although the reason is still not clear what lead to Romero’s release this is confirmed that he is no longer under UFC contract.
Ariel Helwani also confirmed this news by his tweet, “Yoel Romero’s UFC run has come to an unexpected end. Romero and the promotion have parted ways, multiple sources told ESPN. Romero’s manager Malki Kawa also confirmed he is no longer under contract with the UFC. According to sources, Romero had three fights left on his deal.”
Romero is on a three fights loss streak
The 43-year-old Cuban native fighter Yoel Romero isn’t having a really good time inside the Octagon. He is currently on a three fights loss streak which came against Robert Whittaker, Paulo Costa, and most recently against Israel Adesanya. In the fight against Adesanya, Costa was ruled off from this fight due to bicep surgery.
Due to this Romero got his chance against Adesanya for the title but Izzy won the fight by the unanimous decision of the judges. Apart from these losses, Romero has given many memorable moments to his fans to remember. One of his most memorable wins came against Chris Weidman at UFC 205 in which Romero won by a flying knee.
For now, it is uncertain that with which promotion Romero will continue his carrier but ‘The Soldier of God’ will be surely missed by his fans.
