Tai Tzu Ying Vs Carolina Marin: Match Preview
Tai Tzu Ying played her first international tournament after the All England Championships in March 2020. Carolina Marin finished runner up in the Denmark Open in October 2020. On the way to the finals, the Taiwanese has beaten all her opponents in straight sets in less than 40 minutes. Carolina Marin too has beaten her opponents in straight sets, however, has been stretched by An Se Young and Supanida Katethong.
Tai Tzu Ying Vs Carolina Marin: Head-to-Head
Tai Tzu leads the head to head 9-6 against the Spaniard. Both the players are capable of playing at a high pace, are fit and strong. Marin is more aggressive, and more expressive too. On the other hand, Tai Tzu is aggressive in her game but more calm and composed. Tai Tzu relies on her extraordinary shots and deceptions, while Marin has to her strength her smashes, speed of movement and pace.
Tai Tzu Ying Vs Carolina Marin: Match Prediction
Both players have been in good form in this tournament. The form however may not be completely on par with that before the pandemic. Due to lack of competition, the players have had a rusty start, with niggles against opponents whom they could have beaten without breaking a sweat, but they have managed it well and gotten their focus back on track. Also in the earlier rounds, there have been instances of many unforced errors and lapses in consistency in court movement. It is important that in a final match the players avoid any kind of unforced errors because each will have to earn a point. Neither Carolina nor Tai would be gifting easy points. This is a very difficult prediction to make with such fabulous players, who are both mentally strong and fighters. The way Tai Tzu made errors in the second game against Mia in the Semi-final, it could be a major setback for her against Marin in the finals, should that happen. On the other hand, Marin is also a player who can go into a spiral of errors if she does not quickly recover mentally from a series of errors. And both players are capable of exploiting these weaknesses of each other.
Prediction: Tai Tzu Ying to win the match (60%), it could be a three set game.
