The Los Angeles Dodgers have gone back-to-back. The Californian side defended its crown following an epic Game 7 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday. Several MLB fans would later join Dave Roberts in hailing Yoshinobu Yamamoto as the pitcher got named the 2025 World Series MVP.

The right-handed pitcher became the ace of the team this season. After going 12-8 in the regular season, the Japanese international turned hot in the postseason.

In the National League Championship Series (NLCS) Game 2, he dominated the Milwaukee Brewers after giving up a home run on the very first pitch. He went on to throw the first complete game in the postseason since 2017.

In his next start, he went the distance again. With the Dodgers losing 11-4 in Game 1, they needed to bounce back in Game 2. The 27-year-old was locked in once again and threw his second successive complete game.

With their season on the line after the Game 5 loss, Yamamoto delivered another masterclass from the mound. While he did not throw a third consecutive complete game, he was dominant again. He threw 6 innings and gave up just 1 run on Friday.

The pendulum swung late in favor of the Dodgers in Game 7. After going down 3-0 through a Bo Bichette home run off Shohei Ohtani, the Dodgers fought back and made it a 3-2 game through sacrifice flies from Teoscar Hernandez and Tommy Edman.

The Blue Jays went 4-2 up through a double from Andres Gimenez in the bottom of the 6th inning. The visitors then fought back with solo home runs from Max Muncy in the 8th and Miguel Rojas in the 9th inning.

With the Blue Jays in position to walk off the game, Yamamoto was thrown in the game by Roberts, just a day after he won Game 6. He ran into some trouble as he hit Alejandro Kirk to load up the bases with just 1 out.

However, two incredible defensive plays from Rojas and center field Andy Pages kept the game 4-4 and forced extra innings. After the Dodgers squandered a similar bases-loaded one-out situation in the 10th inning, they jumped ahead in the 11th inning.

A solo home run from catcher Will Smith against Shane Bieber put the Dodgers in front for the first time. While Vladimir Guerrero Jr. did hit a double and reached third base through a sacrifice bunt, he was unable to save his team.

Kirk would ground the ball, which resulted in a double play and ended the game. Yamamoto ended up winning this game as well and was named as the World Series MVP.

During the trophy presentation, Dave Roberts was asked about the performance of Yamamoto in the Fall Classic. The Dodgers skipper would turn towards him and label him the “G.O.A.T.” (Greatest of All-Time) and hail him.

Yamamoto’s the GOAT. He is the GOAT! Yama’s the GOAT!

Yamamoto ended up throwing 17.2 innings in the World Series and picked up 15 strikeouts. He allowed just 2 runs and became the first pitcher after Randy Johnson to win 3 games in the World Series. The MLB Hall of Famer did this in 2001 when the Arizona Diamondbacks stunned the New York Yankees.

The two-way star was in contention of the MVP award as well. Following his historic performance in Game 3, his form dipped a bit.

He struggled from the mound in Game 7 and was staring at the loss with his team 3-0 down. Following an incredible comeback, Yamamoto was named as the winning pitcher, while Shane Bieber unfortunately picked up the loss as he gave up the home run to Will Smith, which proved to be the difference.

While speaking with the Fox Sports crew, Ohtani expressed that he was in disbelief regarding the performance of his countrymen.

I have no idea how he pulled it off. I really believe he is the No. 1 pitcher in the whole world.

Shohei Ohtani said regarding Yoshinobu Yamamoto
