Jay Shah, the BCCI Secretary has been elected as the new chairman of the ICC unopposed. Former Pakistan captain, Younis Khan, has appealed to Shah to show sportsman spirit and let India come to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025.
There have been a controversy and speculations regarding India’s participation in the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025 and their travel to Pakistan to play in that tournament. India has not traveled to Pakistan since 2006 due to security reasons and have also not played in bilateral series.
They don’t get the clearance from the Indian Government due to security reasons and as per them, till Pakistan stops funding cross border terrorism, things would not change. Younis Khan wants Shah to ensure that the 2025 Champions Trophy is held in Pakistan without any issues.
The cricket should uplift with the appointment of Jay Shah as the ICC chief. Jay Shah needs to show the sportsman spirit, as with the good initiatives of the ICC chief, India can come to Pakistan to play cricket. In the same way, Pakistan can visit India.Younis Khan said (via Cricket Pakistan)
It needs to be seen if India does travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. Meanwhile, Younis Khan also talked about Pakistan’s recent humiliating 10 wickets loss against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi in the first Test match.
This was Pakistan’s first loss in Test cricket against Bangladesh on home soil. Khan stated that it is always a pressure to play matches in home conditions. However, he questioned the morale of the players and their ability to absorb pressure while playing in home grounds. He asked the current Pakistan team to win matches on home grounds without thinking about the nature of the pitch.
Jay Shah did not allow Indian Cricket Team to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023
There was a big debate before the Asia Cup 2023 regarding India’s travel to Pakistan for the tournament. Shah was the President of the Asian Cricket Council. The Indian team did not travel to Pakistan for Asia Cup 2023 and all of India’s matches were held in Sri Lanka a part of a hybrid model.
India wants the same model for the Champions Trophy 2025. However, Pakistan does not want to back off this time, citing reasons that they also traveled to India for the ODI World Cup in 2023. Now, with Jay Shah as the new Chairman of the ICC, things look more bleak regarding the possibility of India’s travel to Pakistan.
