Spike Lee is undoubtedly one of the most passionate fans the New York Knicks have. He usually makes it a point to attend as many games at Madison Square Garden as possible, particularly in the playoffs, when he puts his movies on hold just to watch his team win.

This postseason, Lee and other New Yorkers have been hopeful. They saw how their team beat the defending champion Boston Celtics in the second round. That gave hope that, finally, the Larry O’Brien Trophy would return to the Big Apple.

He was present when the New York Liberty won the WNBA championship, but as New Yorkers would say, the Knicks winning one will shut the city down. That passion is all-encompassing, and fans have taken their love for the team a bit too seriously at times.

Some of them have drawn the wrath of the basketball community, especially when they try to humiliate other teams’ fans despite not winning the title. But Spike Lee did not go that route, instead, he proposed that he would give up both his Oscars for the New York Knicks to win a championship. As soon as he said this, Charles Barkley had a befitting reply.

Well you’re gonna keep them.

Charles Barkley replied

Spike Lee instantly mentioned jokingly that Barkley did not have to say anything, as Ernie Johnson asked the question to him. But even Johnson agreed that when it comes to the Hall of Famer, even Lee knows throughout the years that there is no filter.

Spike Lee and Reggie Miller have no ill feelings

Spike Lee hopes his New York Knicks win Game 5 and then proceed to upset the Indiana Pacers. He has been a part of this rivalry for decades, and remembers the time when Reggie Miller gestured his famous ‘choke’ celebration towards him.

Now, though, they are good friends as they revealed during Inside the NBA‘s on-court discussion. The Malcolm X director revealed how Miller showed class in that 1994 playoff series. Lee revealed that the Pacers legend could have kept the beef going, but ensured he met Lee after Game 7 to ensure the beef ended then and there.

The two also talked about how people still ask both of them individually if they hate each other. But the Hall of Famer made it clear that the two have been constantly in touch and are good friends. This confirmed that the beef, despite being on opposite sides of a rivalry, is officially over.

Spike Lee is watching his New York Knicks turn the tables on the Pacers

After Game 4, many believed the New York Knicks were done. They did not have the manpower to handle the Indiana Pacers, and the coaching was suspect. But their passionate fans, including Spike Lee, hoped their team could still upset their rivals.

Game 5 started off with the home team, buoyed by its passionate fans streaking into the lead. They kept that pace until half-time, but the deficit was not something that would bother the Pacers. They have overcome massive deficits against the Knicks at Madison Square Garden in this playoff series.

The Knicks, however, were aware of that and decided to take advantage of the Pacers’ poor shooting night to stretch the lead to nearly 30 points in the 3rd quarter. The game ended with the home team saving their season by winning the game 111-94.

Now they get at least one more chance to ensure they stay on the path of their goal of winning their first NBA title since 1973. Spike Lee would, of all people, love it if they could. The series now heads back to Indianapolis for Game 6 on May 31st.
