Veteran Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal’s ex-wife Dhanashree Verma made some surprising revelations about their divorce, which was finalized just a few months ago. She spoke candidly about an emotional breakdown she experienced moments before the divorce verdict was announced.
Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma‘s relationship began during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, getting engaged a few months later, following which they went public with their relationship. The couple got married in a private ceremony in Gurugram in December 2020, with only a few friends and family members in attendance. What appeared to be a happy marriage, however, soured over time.
After confirming they had been living separately since 2022, Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma filed for a mutual divorce in February 2025. The Bandra Family Court formalized their divorce in March 2025, waiving the six-month ‘reconciliation’ period. As part of the divorce agreement, the veteran Indian spinner was ordered to pay an alimony of INR 4.75 crores, bringing their five-year relationship to an end.
Even before the court announced its decision, the 28-year-old YouTuber became the target of intense social media trolling, with many fans labeling her a ‘gold-digger’ and a ‘social climber’. Speaking for the first time since her separation from Yuzvendra Chahal on a podcast, Dhanashree Verma discussed the emotional challenges she faced and recounted the day the family court legalized their separation.
On the Humans of Bombay podcast, she revealed that moments before the verdict was announced, she had an emotional breakdown despite being mentally prepared. Verma disclosed that she started to cry and howl in front of everyone in the court.
Reflecting on her marriage with Chahal, Dhanashree described it as ‘chaotic’ and said she was often grieved throughout the period. She acknowledged that there were both good and bad days, but that the bad ones ultimately outweighed the good.
I still remember when I was standing there and the verdict was about to be given. Even though we were so well-prepared mentally, I got so emotional. I started howling in front of everybody.
Furthermore, the 28-year-old dismissed claims that her marriage to Yuzvendra Chahal was a publicity stunt, urging people not to label or question a woman’s commitment in a relationship. Verma highlighted her support for her ex-husband during their marriage, stating that she stood by him through thick and thin. She linked this to her emotional outburst on the day of the divorce, suggesting that her emotions were finally coming out.
I know how much I have stood up for my partner [Yuzvendra Chahal], and everybody has seen that. Like for the smallest or biggest things, I have been there. Maybe because of that, my emotions came out.
Nonetheless, Dhanashree Verma later shared that her divorce from Yuzvendra Chahal brought a positive transformation in her life, allowing her to finally focus on personal growth and her priorities. Meanwhile,
Dhanashree Verma Criticizes Yuzvendra Chahal’s ‘Be Your Own Sugar Daddy’ T-Shirt on Divorce Day
Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal, whose five-year marriage to Dhanashree Verma ended a few months ago, surprised fans with a bold T-shirt he wore on the final day of his divorce proceedings. The 35-year-old’s shirt, with the phrase ‘Be Your Own Sugar Daddy’, has now been criticized by his ex-wife.

While Chahal had suggested that the T-shirt was meant to send a strong message, Verma interpreted it differently, stating that she was unfairly blamed for the T-shirt controversy. She recalled seeing videos of Chahal leaving the court and exclaimed that the spinner should have informed or texted her before what she called a ‘publicity stunt’. Verma noted that she left through the back door to avoid media attention.
Dhanashree Verma strongly criticized Chahal’s choice of T-shirt during her recent podcast appearances, noting that she was still trying to catch her breath after the final verdict was announced. She added that the T-shirt ‘stunt’ further motivated her to move on without hesitation.
