Indian national team spinner Yuzvendra Chahal walked out of the Bandra family Court in style, donning a T-shirt that had a surprising message on it. The 34-year-old bowler attended his final divorce hearing with estranged wife Dhanashree Verma.

Yuzvendra Chahal and his now former wife Dhanashree Verma were granted a divorce by the Bandra family court, after month-long proceedings. Chahal and Verma had tied the knot in December 2020. During their five-year marital association, the couple have lived separately for more than two years, since June 2022. They filed for divorce by mutual consent in February, this year.

The Bandra family court had previously directed the couple to spend the six-month mandatory cooling period. It is generally advised for separating couples, while trying to look for an avenue of reconciliation and mediation. However, the couple filed a joint plea in the Bombay High Court, which later urged the family court to waive the cooling period and decide upon the case.

The High Court cited that the two have been living away from each other for more than two years. Chahal also agreed with the mutual consent terms, which requires him to pay INR 4.75 crores alimony to 28-year-old Dhanashree Verma. He has reportedly paid half of the amount, 2.37 crores, while the remaining sum was to be paid after the divorce case got over.

Following the Bandra family court’s decision to grant a divorce, the spinner was spotted leaving, while being surrounded by paparazzi. Yuzvendra Chahal was interestingly spotted wearing a black T-shirt, which had a quirky statement on it. The words on his shirt read out as, ‘Be your own Sugar Daddy’, while he also carried a jacket in his hands, while making his way to his car.

Chahal’s attire immediately went viral on social media, as fans praised the 34-year-old for his demeanor and comical attitude. Meanwhile, the phrase that he carried on his shirt, is often used for referring to someone who is financially independent. It was surely aimed as a dig to his former wife Dhanashree Verma, who has been a subject of severe online trolling, amid the divorce case.

Several rumors suggested that Dhanashree Verma had demanded INR 60 crores as alimony. They were however, deemed ‘baseless’ by her family members. Meanwhile, Chahal seems to have moved over her, after he was recently spotted alongside social media sensation RJ Mahvash, during India’s Champions Trophy final against New Zealand in Dubai.

Nonetheless, the early settlement of the divorce case would allow Yuzvendra Chahal to focus on the upcoming IPL season. The leg-spinner will rejoin the Punjab Kings camp ahead of their season opener against Gujarat Titans.

Punjab Kings have failed to even make it into the top four in the last 11 years, since their only final appearance in 2014. However, under new coach Ricky Ponting, the team will be seeking to return around their fortunes. Shreyas Iyer, who led KKR to the IPL title last year, will be captaining the side. He will be joined by the IPL’s all-time highest wicket-taker, Yuzvendra Chahal.

Apart from the two Indian veterans, Arshdeep Singh, who comes off the back of a brilliant year with the Indian team, will play a crucial role. Meanwhile, the Australian all-round duo of Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis also remain important players for the Punjab Kings.
