Kirk Cousins almost pulled off another win in the space of a few days, but some questionable play-calling quashed the Atlanta Flacons’ chances of securing their second win of the season by beating the Kansas City Chiefs. Cousins instigated some great drives early on in the game, resulting in the Falcons leading the majority of the first half.

The Chiefs eventually caught up with the hosts thanks to three consecutive field goals from Harrison Butker—53 yards, 44 yards, and 21 yards. They increased the deficit as quarterback Patrick Mahomes found returning wide receiver Juju Smith-Schuster for a 13-yard touchdown late in the third quarter.

Atlanta kicker Younghoe Koo cut down on the lead through a field goal. The responsibility fell on the first-year coaching of Raheem Morris and the new offensive coordinator, Zac Robinson.

Fans blame the Falcons’ coaching staff for wasting a scoring chance with questionable play-calling involving Kirk Cousins

On 4th & inches inside the Chiefs half, Cousins handed the ball to running back Bijan Robinson to break through the Chiefs’ defensive line. However, the Reds’ defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo was one step ahead of them.

Right after Robinson grabbed the ball, he looked for a hole in the wall but failed to notice Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton, blitz straight at him. Bolton pounced on the young running back’s feet and dragged him to the ground. The drive ended with a turnover on downs and attracted anger from the Falcons’ fans.

Those who missed the game should know this wasn’t the only shot the Falcons had to steal the win. Early in the fourth quarter, right after Koo’s field goal, Kirk Cousins found wide receiver Drake London inside the Chiefs endzone.

London couldn’t hang on to the pass because safety Bryan Cook smashed into his abdomen, forcing him to go out of bounds. Falcons players protested as they thought it was defensive pass interference, but the officials shrugged their shoulders.

After the game, reporters questioned Morris on whether he should have challenged the call, but he made a cryptic remark, “I like my money!!!”

The loss left the Falcons with a 1-2 record going into the game next week’s tie against NFC South rivals, the New Orleans Saints. As for the Chiefs, they will travel to LA and play AFC East rivals the Chargers.
