Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor is still hopeful that the Bengals will make it to the playoffs despite a 4-7 record hanging on their heads. The admission comes amid two consecutive late-minute thrillers.
The Bengals failed to close out against the Los Angeles Chargers in week 11, who inch closer to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC West. The Chargers, led by Justin Herbert, effectively ran riot on the Bengals’ defense, scoring a game-winning touchdown with barely 18 seconds left. As the Bengals go into the bye week, their postseason hopes are barely alive.
Zac Taylor expressed optimism about the results of the loss, adding that they could help them in the long run. Speaking to the press after the game, Taylor noted that the recent losses have been stemming from a last play. He added that there need no huge changes, considering that their flaw is in those late minutes.
What I just keep telling the team is, ‘At some point, this has got to help us. At some point, we’ve got to find some momentum, and we’ve got to get on a run, and we’ve got to find ourselves in a good position where we reflect back. We don’t ever want to use a loss for good, but it’s got to help us in some way.‘
Zac Taylor said
Despite the poor record, Taylor is confident that they can bounce back from this and make the playoffs. He admitted that they have the systems in place to get it done.
We’re going to hang in there and support each other and find a way to get this thing done. And if we can get it done, it’s going to be a dang good season. It’s not so far what we would have written for ourselves, but I tell you, I stand here today with the utmost belief that we can still get this done on the back half of our schedule.
Zac Taylor added
Zac Taylor understands if fans don’t think this team is headed to the playoffs but he still holds out hope. “I’ve still got the confidence that we can get this thing done.” pic.twitter.com/ba8Kj6YVyS

Earlier Rex Ryan had noted that the Bengals remain a formidable threat to Kansas City Chiefs’ three-peat despite the 4-7 record. After a bye next week, the Bengals play the division leaders Pittsburgh Steelers at home.
Bengals star QB Joe Burrow doesn’t share the coach’s optimism
Cincinnati Bengals trails AFC North leader Pittsburgh (8-2) by 4.5 games, with two matchups against the Steelers remaining. Heading into their bye week, nine AFC teams hold better records than the Bengals. Their playoff chances are dwindling with NFL Playoff Picture giving them barely a nine percent chance.

After the loss to the Chargers, a defeated Burrow seemed less confident when asked about the team’s chances of making a playoff push.
I hope so. I guess we’ll find out. We are where we’re at. I’m not happy with where we’re at, I don’t think anybody is. We’re not good enough. Our margin of error is slim.
Joe Burrow said
Burrow has produced one of the best margins for a quarterback who found himself on the losing side in the last two games. Burrow was nothing short of exceptional against the Baltimore Ravens as well as the Chargers.
Facing the Chargers, he completed 28 of 50 passes for 356 yards and three touchdowns. He currently leads the NFL in both passing yards (3,028) and touchdowns (27).
