With nine Touchdowns, 820 passing yards and a pass completion rate of 68.8%, Joe Burrow put his best foot forward against the Baltimore Ravens in both games this season. Nevertheless, he found himself on the wrong side after two heartbreaking losses.

The Bengals were denied two penalty calls amid their late two-point conversion attempt to stage a victory. In addition to the same, there were multiple instances where Joe Burrow was hit by the opposing team despite leaving possession of the ball.

The inaction by the referees have been led to fans terming the game “scripted”. Apart from the fans, players and former players have also raised serious accusations and calls for reforms.

Bengals coach Zac Taylor voiced frustration over some of the hits quarterback Joe Burrow endured in Thursday’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens. He admitted wanting to fight for Burrow in the game more.

They call it like they see it. I respect that. I just got to keep fighting for some of that stuff. You don’t want to lose him on a [hit] that’s well after the play’s over. I’ve got to fight harder for Joe to get some of that. Because he doesn’t want to do it. He doesn’t want to disrupt from his flow in the game, but that’s just things I got to talk with him about.

Burrow also spoke on the lack of penalty calls coming his way in his career. Nevertheless, he mentioned that he doesn’t expect the handouts either.

I feel like I have never gotten those calls, I don’t really expect that. I feel like there were a couple that were close. Again, I don’t expect those.

In the Bengals’ narrow 35-34 loss at M&T Bank Stadium, Joe Burrow endured 13 hits and was sacked three times. Some of these hits, occurring after he had released the ball, bordered on what could be considered roughing the passer.

Head coach Zac Taylor, addressing reporters on Friday, noted that Burrow had endured some significant hits, resulting in a bruise to his left arm. Taylor clarified that, to his knowledge, Burrow’s discomfort doesn’t involve any rib issues.

Bruised, yeah. I mean, he took some good hits. But I think just talking to him, the left arm was more just a hit, bruise. So, soreness.

Zac Taylor told reporters

The Ravens’ defense logged an aggressive 13 quarterback hits on Burrow throughout the game, including three sacks—all delivered by defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike. Despite the pressure, Burrow had a solid performance, completing 34 of 56 pass attempts for 428 yards, throwing four touchdowns with no interceptions.

The Bengals have time enough to recover from the loss before playing the Los Angeles Chargers this Monday. Meanwhile, the Ravens will be playing the division leaders Pittsburgh Steelers.
