Football is a sport with one of the most loyal fanbases. The NFL has an array of fanbases that are loyal to their respective teams. Unfortunately, in some cases, this means that a certain section of fans tend to take things overboard as they approach the families of players and coaches of their teams. The latest victim of this is Cincinnati Bengals’ HC Zac Taylor.
Following a one-point loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Zac Taylor’s wife Sarah Sherman began to feel the heat despite having nothing to do with the team’s gameplan. She allegedly received hate from the team’s fanbase and took to Instagram to vent out.
She highlighted Taylor’s dedication to his job and how it has impacted his personal life. Zac Taylor has an unpredictable schedule, spending nights at the stadium while strategizing the team’s game plans. However, fans do not see this and find it easy to jump to conclusions at the first chance they get. His wife went on to state that he has not seen his kids since Sunday.
ZT wife on IG. Just trying to show the personal aspect of things man. Here we are as fans sitting on our couchs fuming. We’re not putting in the hours like this and then getting screwed by the refs. Despite Taylor’s best efforts, the Bengals fell to the Ravens at the last moment. The team’s two-point conversion failed, and Lamar Jackson and Co. completed the season sweep against Joe Burow and Cincinnati.
Zac Taylor’s wife has had it with the team’s fanbase calling the HC and his family out despite his best efforts
In all honesty, the Bengals had a chance to win the game against the Ravens. However, the referees had their blinders on when the team went for a two-point conversion as there was clear holding on Mike Gesicki by two of the Ravens’ corners. It was shocking that the officials missed the call, but it unfortunately cost the team the game.
Fans ought to understand that no matter how much football means to them, it is a game at the end of the day. On a professional level, criticize and call out the head coach if needed but understand where the boundary is. One must never go out and lash out at their family or post hate comments against them. The loss was disheartening but Zac Taylor’s family did not sign up to bear the brunt of fans’ disappointment in the team.
Fans may find it easy to call out the HC over his choice of plays but the work that went into him deciding that was the right choice in that circumstance is something they will never get. Football matters but family matters more, and as fans, it is important to understand that the sport is fun for all when there is a degree of respect involved.
